ap0c0lypt1c: Wow. I've spent hours reading and searching for bits and pieces of the info you just provided, and could never get full consensus. The threads (as they do) tended to siderail.

For the info and time you spent posting: I offer you a thousand blessings. Or a 1.6 60' time. Whichever comes first. LOL!

Mad props. I'm searching for diffs this week....

Thanks! I appreciate it. Much like you, I found lots of conflicting info and unfinished threads and it was mainly NeverBoneStock's thread on this forum and the 4.08 gear 7AT review on the370z.com that convinced me to do this. I vowed to have a thread that would actually be INFORMATIVE haha.

My biggest problem I'm having now is that my tires chirp shifting gears ALL THE TIME if I am flooring it or giving it a lot of gas. Thinking of buying some cheap, wide XXR's for now until I can afford legit wheels and having a 255/285 or 245/275 setup.

As far as diffs go, I just bought mine on eBay lol.

Problem? That's like Denise Milani having a 'problem' because she has people watching her cleavage. LOL!

Thanks.

Is this doable on the X models? Thanks for the write-up, OP!

It may be possible but if I understand correctly there is one diff per axle on the AWD cars. If possible, it would cost twice as much I'd imagine.

I would call a trusted shop and see if they can tell you if this is possible on an AWD car.

Next time mine is on a lift, I'm going to look into it.

Just want to clarify something, the g35 pumpkin will fit the g37? A local guy has an LSD rear from an 04 6-speed g35 for like $150, this will bolt right in?

Yep, G35/37 and 350/370z differentials are all the same. If your car came with an LSD diff its a direct bolt on, if you have a non-sport G37 you will need one stub shaft since its a different length on the LSD diff but nothing cost prohibitive when you are getting the entire diff for $150!!! Those are usually $300-500 so I would jump on that!

Yes, my car is a 6-MT sport. That's a crazy price right? He just wants it gone since he sold his g35 and can't use it for anything.

At $150 for a complete diff, I would buy it just to re-sell it for $300 lol. If you're gonna change your gearing anyway in the future, I'd pick that up!

So I just secured a complete M/T VLSD diff w/ stub axles off of a 2007 G35 coupe with 13k miles from a boneyard here in CT. (I found tons of entries on 'car-parts' .com)

A call to Rich at RDZ Motorsports in Danbury, CT is securing a set of 4.08's and the install kit.

We'll outfit the assembly back here at The Shop in Norwalk.

T-minus ten and counting....

Thanks again for the straight scoop.

BTW: If you can get an entire diff for $150, RUN, don't walk to secure that.

On the drive home (3 hrs) from Chatsworth, CA, I determined my highway mileage is only slightly worse (0.5 - 1mpg difference.) So far driving around in the city I can safely say the mpg is no worse than before, perhaps even slightly better. I think driving style and highway time will influence how much this mod impacts your gas mileage.

@Jsolo: for everyone else's reference, here are my approximate RPM's at those speeds:

3.916 gearing 7AT Sedan

60mph - ~2500RPM
70mph - ~2800RPM
80mph - ~3200RPM

@jamesshifflett - They actually asked if I knew you haha

What was done to correct the speedometer after the switch to steeper gears?
If no correction was made for the speedo, you will be showing higher speed and more miles than actual...which affects mpg calculation accuracy.
