6MT - Hard going into gear. 1000 miles.

Hey fellas,

I signed this lease recently and just hit 1000 miles. Monday the car drove fine. Today when I start it, it was hard to go into gears. Not super super hard or impossible, but defenitely needed to put some effort into shifting.

It happens to the actual shifter, or it feels like it anyway. Its fine to come out of gear, but when actually shifting into the next (up or down) its hard.

Granted, it was never silky smooth, which i liked. But this is just too much. Im worried something went wrong.

has this happened to anyone? any suggestions?

I dont really push the car and baby it more or less. Even so, 1000 miles?

Thanks,

Roman

6500 miles on my '12 here. The only time it's difficult is when it's really cold out (say under 35F), and only when the car is cold. I'll usually double clutch the first few shifts of the day until the car warms up.

Check your clutch fluid level to see if that's changed any. Any difference in the clutch feel? You didn't make any adjustments as far as the pedal goes? Typically, difficulty in engaging the gears is due to clutch not fully disengaging or synchro wear.

No changes, adjustments or any mods. Clutch feels the same. I guess I have to bring it to the dealer.

It is around 35 degrees here. But even after i drove the car on the highway for 20 mins...same thing.

Roman, not sure what to suggest. I can't imagine your CSC leaking already. Did you check your level? Keep us posted.

Also should add, it feels like it should, smooth, when i have the clutch in and shift gears. But when im rolling, and have the clutch pushed in, thats where the problem is. Still drives fine like it should. Will check the level, will report back.

thanks

I have the same problem only when its super cold out. It was about 17F here last week and I couldn't put it in reverse, so I just rolled down my driveway.

If it doesn't loosen up after 15 minutes or so, you've got a problem.

However, you mentioned its rougher when the vehicle is moving. It is only when you downshift? I notice at times when the car doesn't want to go into a certain gear, it pushes back (say shifting into 2nd when rolling at ~30mph).

hey guys,

i checked the CSC level and it seems to be full.

However, after the car was parked for a few hours, and i drove it home, i want to say it was back to normal. Will drive tonight, will report back. But i think it might of been resolved. Hopefully it was just cold.

thanks

yup, likely just a cold & un-lubricated gearbox. that even sounds bad just sayin it.

For next year, i'll likely do a trans service with synthetic fluid. Same for the @ss end. Better than having thick honey in there in the midst of the cold.
