Are our throttle bodies always full open?
Are our throttle bodies always full open?
I'm sorry if this is a stupid question..
But I always thought I understood what VVEL was however last night I finally did some research and found this video.
Now I under stand it's a really old video but it shows an interesting part where it compares the VVEL motor to a conventional motor. Which was really interesting to me. I actually never thought VVEL was that complex.
But now it leaves me confused.
1) Are our throttle bodies always fully open?
2) What's the point of a throttle body if you can completely control your values opening and closing?

From what I can understand from that video is that our throttle is open all the time just it never opens 100% but the vvel is so efficient that it does not need to open 100%. I could be wrong but if that lil cross thing on the right of the video is our throttle than I dunno what to say cause it shows it open constantly.
I do know we suffer from lag in our electronic throttle control because it pisses me of 24/7 but I heard tune clears that up with the availability of controlling your throttle response and limitations.

No the throttle bodies aren't open all the time.
Example, when VDC is on and you start losing traction the ECU will automatically apply brake pressure AND close off throttle (aka throttle bodies will close to limit power).

It can be done, but too unstable.
I have my throttle mapped similar to this.
Notice, 100% open at 100% throttle. Thats is technically removing the 0-60 restriction.
Anything more won't work.
