engine salt

I just bought this car. It has some salt (or something else) on the engine. It was inspected by Pepboys before I bought it who didn't seem concerned but should I be? Here's a couple pics...

i have that too but i had that on most of my cars i dont know what causes it i must assume rain when driving gets mixes with impurities to leave those marks

Its normal...driving long enough will make your engine dirty but once in a while give it a good detail and will look brand new.
