7 speed AT complaint posts
I have had my 2010, sedan, 7speed auto, for almost 2 years and put 18,000 mostly highway miles on it. I've driven a lot of 2 lane roads on my trips where I do frequent high speed passing of slower vehicles. Not once has my transmission lagged, when I have floored the throttle.
I have also never had a problem when leaving a stop sign/red light and briskly picked up speed.
Are the complaints solely from owners that brake hard and while the car is still slowing down, floor the throttle.

That's not my complaint. The problem is brake, turn, gas.
Although I've done it before, I think it's important to make very clear the symptom that I (and I think others) are complaining about. There seems to be ALOT of misunderstanding of what the problem is.
The car sometimes does not seem to be "ready" after braking for you to apply the gas again, for a delay of about 1 second. Then there's a sudden jerk of acceleration when the car wakes up in a lower gear. I am being gentle on the brake and gas when this happens. Again, it does not happen all the time, It just happens pretty frequently, for me.
Basically the same as what vactor said above.
I don't spend a long time coasting with neither gas nor brake applied. I brake till I am ready to get back on the gas. All very smooth braking and application of gas. Not being aggressive, just smooth and maintaining forward momentum. This is the only car that often "dies" for a second during a turn then jerks to life. None of my other autos have ever done that.
The reaction of passengers is "What was that? How hard is it to drive an automatic smoothly LOL?".

I think people are misunderstanding this issue. It has NOTHING to do with aggressive driving! My gf drives my car like a slow grandmother and has it happen MORE often to her!
I have the issue happen when I'm SLOWLY and CALMLY trying to press on the gas during rush hour traffic! I notice the issue never seems to occur at fast speeds like 65MPH + so I'm suspecting those who don't notice it might be driving on open highways at faster speeds. That or somehow certain ones off the line weren't affected? But none-the-less it definitely exists under NORMAL driving for some people!

Wow Mike I guess those of us that have no issues with our gearbox were wrong! My 37k mile long term test drive tells me that this auto gearbox is quirky like all other auto gearboxes. No better or worse than the 5 speed AT in our Accord, or the one one in my wife's 2005 Grand Cherokee. Don't want quirkiness in your gearbox, buy a true manual or drive your auto in M.
Seriously people life is too short to let any car irritate you this much. If I was in your shoes I would of dump the car a long time ago. There are too many G's on the roads, so please people who hate their 7AT's please sell them now!

Just because YOUR car didn't do it, or you didn't have it happen doesn't mean there isn't a problem with OUR cars. You're not "wrong" just because your car is fine.

gugarci: You would have dumped it a long time ago? Really? I've had the car for 7 months. Do you think I'm waiting too long? I'm shopping for a new car. I had a G35 for 7 years, never had this problem. I think I have been sensibly patient with them for a very reasonable duration while "putting up with it". Do you throw $10,000 depreciation in the garbage just like that? I don't. First I seek a resolution through whatever channels might make that happen. I'm gradually discovering that the forum approach is useless due to the dismissive disrespectful ego-driven attitudes here from some.
I have driven a few other G37s in an attempt to figure out if it is just mine or more common. (have not driven a 2012 yet) So far EVERY one with the 7AT and current software does the exact same thing my car does.
So.... I guess I found a bad batch of them. How many different G37s did you drive gugarci?
I'm glad your car is fine. Good for you. Mine is NOT. Mine is DEFECTIVE. So are the others I drove. So are the ones owned by other people here complaining.
And YES, I am getting rid of this car as soon as I find something else to replace it with. Actively shopping for an Audi or BMW as we speak. I never thought I would have to test drive a premium car for a long time to find out if the manufacturer screwed up something so basic. My fault. You can bet I will be more careful next time.
Some people have cars with problems that you didn't have with yours. There seems to be a lot of reports. The dealer agrees with me that there are many reports.
You are not "wrong" if your car is OK.
You are only "wrong" if you treat all of the people with documented problems like they are fools.

On the other hand, you don't have issues with your 7AT does not mean we all don't have issues. Have you driven Mike's 7AT G? Have you driven my 7AT G? Have you driven Almatti's 7AT? How can you be so sure our 7AT are normal???
"mikeb2004, I feel your Pain...excellent disertation btw. What still bugs me to no end, is that other Posters say they are fine. Don't experience this lagging. How can that be?? Maybe Ignorance IS Bliss..."

Just had an awkward event again...was going like about 10 mph in 1st gear (manual mode), had to slow down to ~5 mph for a speed bump. I applied very slight throttle after and kept it there, the car started going (~2500 RPMs) and then the car all of a sudden jumped to ~4000 RPMs as if it thought I had applied WOT possibly? I usually don't experience this in very low speeds...

The transmission issues are similar to the paint problems w/ this car, some think the paint is just fine others like myself think it's one of the weakest paint finishes in the business. I echo those that say they're happy that a large number of folks here have no issues w/ this transmission, but I'm not that happy w/ my 7AT and know that it's not operating nearly as smooth and effective as my 07 G35 5AT (just a great Auto IME). Sure it's a more complex transmission but I think it's pretty obvious by the large number of complaints that this part was rushed into the lineup (to compete w/ other 7 or 8 speed ATs) without a thorough number of test hours. It seems that the 2012s may indeed be showing improvement so I'm still holding out hope. And again, for those that are fine w/ their ATs so much the better, just don't discount those that aren't having the same luck
I owned an '07 335i before getting a '09 G37x. The transmission in the '09 was pretty harsh compared to the BMW. The auto downshifting seemed to always kick in to late or even when it wasn't needed at all. I traded my '09 in last week for a '12 G37xS and the difference between '09 and '12 is VERY noticeable. The tranny is much smoother now and far more refined than the '09. I'm very happy with the improvement.

Well Boys, got my final answer from Infiniti : Tough Beans.... The car is working within it's design specs, nothing wrong with the car's Tranny, so the answer to my request to return the car : NOPE...
I requested to "move up the line" to senior management ....That's not happening. My only avail is to take the complaint to Consumer Advocay Groups. I suggested my attorney, the Attorney General of NY, and Better Business Bureaus. Unless a Class Action Complaint could be formaulated, NY State's Attorney General won't pay much attention to this....Remember the Toyota Gas pedal problem.....it stirred a major pot due to the accidents that were reported and the Media attention it received. With all that Hoopla, the final answer was: The carpet mats were the culprit !!!
Maybe we need New Carpet Mats >><!-- google_ad_section_end -->
I just copied this post from the other Thread ...you know which one. Man, Now I'm pissed. When I emailed the Customer rep that I was not going to pay lease payments, I got the call today - the rep informed me of the above. Now I need to negotiate with Infiniti Financial to get out of the lease eraly w/o further cost. <!-- / message -->

So, just wait a year or two and see what those new 3 owners have to say about their 8-speed wonders.
