Help Temperature gauge fluctuates
Temperature gauge fluctuates
you probably saw my other thread about my G not starting but it's working now and another problem arise!
besides the fuel leakage from the tank problem am facing lol the engine Temperature gauge fluctuates!, i start the car and maybe drive it for 10 min and the gauge still shows me that the car is dead cold!? after awhile the needle just jumps up to the middle (normal engine temp) and stays there and sometimes it fluctuates but NEVER goes above the middle and reach the top
any idea what's going on, recently i changed the engine temp sensor so it cant be it and no there is no air trapped inside the radiator

well reading you post i wasn't sure if youw ere expecting the gauge to ever go above the middle and/or reach the top.
it should never really go much above the middle or anything above that.
+1 on why i doesn't go up slowly..mine maybe jumps a little..but maybe thats cause im not watching it the whole time...but in 50 degree weather it goes from cold to fully warm pretty quick.

bumppp!
problem is still there!!! see the video!!
when i start the car it feels shaky and not steady but once that temp gauge work the engine feels normal and not shaky!!!

Have you taken it in yet? If you changed the thermostat, might have been defective? How's your warer pump doing? Have you flushed the coolant system lately...maybe it's time?
Just throwing out some suggestions. Best thing you could do is take it in...probably.

what do you mean in? in where? lol
i did not change the thermostat, i changed the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor.

Diagnosing this online will be almost impossible. If the guys in Saudi are incompentant then bring it over here. They have to check the senser and walk back to the gauge as is the case with elecrical issues, assuming it is one in the first place.
i was happy that the car is working again....few days later the car stopped
, they gave me a headache about that car is US spec. not the Middle East spec. , they didn't even know how to read the error codes!? , they removed the ECU from my car and put another ECU from another car just to read the codes and that made the case even worse cuz the ECU showed more errors and they gave me the list of the errors and asked me what do you want to change!! , one of the errors was about the g37 speedo cluster!! anyway, i gave up on the dealer after that!....at least the dealer in Saudi Arabia lol

yeah that's what i figured....planning to come to Dubai next week or the week after!. only EVOLVE garage can help me now
I had a similar issue with my Audi only it was their oil temperature gauge which did exactly the same thing as your water coolant gauge did. I didn't have time to troubleshoot it before I traded it in, but it can only be one of three things. The gauge itself, not likely, the sensor, again not likely since you just changed it, or the wiring. Intermittent connections either because of corrosion on the connector/s or a bad wire which due to heat expansion and vibration starts to make a good connection all of a sudden and then your gauge works and the ECU now sees the proper temp to reduce the over-rich condition it's setting to compensate for what it thinks is a cold engine. That's where I would look first. That gauge just moved too quickly and to exactly the mid-line, which is the normal warmed up temp., once it got the proper signal. Try checking those connectors and wiring first before buying any more parts. Good luck on these irksome intermittent electrical problems.

P.S. Like I said, it must be your thermostat so try changing that and see where it takes you.

Honestly I haven't seen the symptoms like that on any car due to a bad thermostat. But if you keep working on cars long enough, you'll eventually see it all.

good news peeps,
yesterday i installed the Mishimoto MMTS-370Z-10 Racing Thermostat and today i turned on the car and seems the gauge is working instantly!, and no more shakes or ruff idle!. i can see the temperature gauge needle raise slowly instead of jumping all of a sudden after 3 or 4 minutes and no more error codes! and i also feel the engine responsiveness is a little bit better!
but it weird my OEM Thermostat looks fine, no rust or salt!. maybe there is something wrong with it's functionality!, anyway, whatever it is i think changing the Thermostat fixed it
will update later after few days

Do you know where the coolant temp sensor is located? I’ve been having issues
taken it in??
