Anyone tried adding the 370Z rev match feature?

For all us 6MT drivers - has anyone investigated the cost and difficulty of adding the rev-match feature from the 370Z?

How do you propose to go about adding this feature to a G37?

I believe he is asking if anyone else has proposed to go about adding this feature to a G37. Otherwise I think he would have shared his thoughts.

From what I understand is you would have to change the tranny and the ECU. I could be wrong but, I asked that question a long time ago when the 370 came out.

that'll be a nice feature since this G is my first ever car, i tend to over rev or under rev and have to hold the clutch in place for a little bit to match the revs...

if you need a computer to rev match for you...you should just stick to an automatic

It would be a cool feature, given that it works like the Z and you can turn it off. My guess is the new G will have it. Maybe wait and trade up.

He is right. The trans is different as it has gear lever position sensor built into it. Plus you would either have to replace the harness or add the connector to the trans end and add the terminal at the ECU.

I've looked into this before just for fun. You need the position sensor on the tranny, 370z ECU, 370z gauge cluster, and the switch. The switch is connected to the gauge cluster, and the gauge cluster instructs the ECU via CAN to turn on or off Syncro Rev.

Is this automatic rev matching on the manuals the next step in evolution on the way to a tiptronic type trans (manual autos)...

How can you become proficient at rev matching/blipping on downshifts if the computer does it for you. It's a subtle technique that takes practice to develop. Timing of both feet + shifter is critical. I can fully understand having rev matching on the 7at. Having this functionality does not upset the suspension when you're braking/downshifting for a corner. But other than that, if you need/want this, what's the point of driving a manual.

I suppose having this feature might make it easier for a non manual driver to drive, but they still need to learn to use the clutch.

I dont want to get too much into the practicality of the feature. But the fact that it can be turned off means that you dont lose the full manual feeling of the manual transmission. This is especially true if you want to take your car to the track and perfect your heel-toe techniques.

However, for a daily driver, it's also nice to turn on the feature and up and down shift extremely smoothly so that your passenger's heads do not bobble every time you shift.

So this feature works on upshifts too? I'm still figuring out the upshifts (esp 1-2), but my downshifts are pretty good.

Yes, this is the very reason I want it for my G37. 1-2 shifts are extremely tricky.

SynchroRev Match can help with upshifts by holding the RPMs when the clutch is disengaged rather than dropping them to idle like a normal car would.

For drivers who take longer to shift, this can help them be smoother since the revs won't drop down to idle immediately.

Of course, if you wait too long I believe the revs will go to idle, but as soon as the gear shift lever is moved in the direction of a gear the system will set the revs at the appropriate RPM for that gear.

On the 7ATs it's great but I hated it on the 6MTs I drove (when test driving Zs). I did not know you could turn it off, nor did the sales people inform me of this. It might have changed my mind about the standards but probably not. I did not like the rev matching at all. It screws with you when you are trying to rev match.................The car needs to leave this to the driver.
