Coming from Nissan Z to Infiniti G

I was curious if anyone had a similar experience with their G. I had a 2004 350z for several years before trading it in for a G37 coupe(manual). It seems like the throttle reacts more slowly on the G and was curious what other peoples impressions are? I notice this most when taking off or downshifting. In the Z when I downshift, I could tap the throttle, get a nice rpm "blip" to easily downshift. In the G, it doesn't seem to happen as fast and I feel that I can't just tap the gas, but rather hold it down longer to get the same rpm "blip". Has anyone had a similar experience and if so, is there an easy solution for this? It seems like the Z throttle response was linear versus the G which feels exponential.

You are correct on that one. I recently drove my friends Z and said the same thing to him. A slight tap on his throttle get's the rpm pretty high. Wondering if our 7500 redline compared to The Z 6500 redline has anything to do with the throttle response

Does the 2004 have drive by wire? The g37 does and it's a bit laggy.

Also if your G has some miles on it, it could be dirty throttle bodies.

I bought the 350z new and sold it with about 75K miles. I also bought the G new and it seems more sluggish compared to the Z when I sold it. I am curious if a lighter flywheel might help. Honestly, I don't think I'd notice it if the Z didn't rev so quickly.

You are comparing 3.5 with the 3.7 VQ. Not the same engine; the 3.7 VQ is a VVEL engine-read the sticky thread on VVEL. A bit beyond drive by wire. I have a neighbor with a 2010 370Z roadster and the drivetrain is identical to my G37. If there is any difference in the drivetrain from the Z to the G, I can't detect it.

does this have anything to do with the throttle restriction that some have removed with (Hypertech? UpRev?) tune or is that something different?

Throttle lag is now gone so acceleration is now smoother and more how it should have come from the factory.

I may be wrong, but I believe its something to do with the fly-by-wire and VVEL combo.. Mostly since the VVEL is constantly adjusting, and with the ECU doing all the math running in the background, there's bound to be a bit of a lag vs the previous 'simpler' designs..

for those interested about the technical stuff, here's a nice read.. also, notice the complexity of the VVEL control system in section 3-1,

I just traded in my 04 350 Roadster for an 08 G37S and I agree the low end torque is better with the Z. Although around 3500 I get a serious kick in the G that I never saw in the 350. But I've found the gear box to be much smoother and more refined. Its definitely related to the higher rev limit, if you look at a dyno graph you'll notice the hp:rev arch on the G is a bit wider.
But meh, i'll trade the low end and response times of the Z for the luxury of the G anyday!
