just snapped my serpentine belt FMl
I was driving no joke 2 blocks from my house and all a sudden i hear a slashing sound as if i hit a little tree branch. Now i come home and i see like wires from the timming belt ripped up. So i ended up dropping it off. What is the problem and i hope i am under warrenty
If you did snap your timing belt (or chain) you wouldn't have made it two blocks back to your house. Like Black Betty said, it's likely to be your serpentine belt, which isn't a huge problem. Don't drive without one, but the car wont' blow up.
yeah even if some of these cars that get hit the timing chains are strong that the motor can still start up...
btw.... nice to bash the dealership and bring it to service here. =)

^^ If im not mistaken our engines are interference, but this doesnt mean that if the timing chain snaps the valves will always hit the piston.
my old civic is interference and the timing belt snapped and I just replaced it with no problems.

+1 for the chain. I'm sure our dealers would drool over timing belts. can you imagine what they would charge to replace it, or what bunch of other services can get rolled in for that one? water pump, bearings, etc...
LMFAO at people thinking we have timing belts..
They are wear and tear items, but if the vehicle is like 2 months old, then they would probably replace it for you. Looks like we're talking about a 2009, so you're out of luck and should hit up your local auto parts store for a new belt.
A serpentine belt lasts at least 60k miles. The worst that happens is that the ridges crack.
A shredded belt means something else. Check for a frozen water pump pulley, frozen or broken idler pulley, frozen AC compressor etc.
Maybe a dead cat!!

Definitely a wear item, but realistically, it should last more than two years.
I replaced the one on my Z at 6 years with 60,000 miles and it was still in decent shape...was starting to see tiny cracks in it; was the reason to replace it when I noticed.
