Redline

I kept on getting the valve ticking/knocking noise. I saw someone's post here that Redline got rid of the noise. So I thought next oil change I'll test it.

I got the some Redline 5w-30 oil yesterday and that valve ticking noise is gone!

So far I have tried,
Dino oil (I think GTX)
Nissan ester oil - this one worked as well but this oil sheers and is more expensive than redline
Motul X-Max 8100 - I thought this would fix the problem since this is a ester based oil, but the knocking was clearly there
Penzoil Platinum x2 - again the knocking was there


I was also getting this rattling sound between 3k to 4k rpm under hard acceleration. I have tried several times now I can't hear it.

I'll update after putting more miles.

8100 is not ester based. 300V is.

Not all 8100 series is ester based. 8100 X-Max is one of the ester based oils.

First oil change with Redline.

I did 8000km (5000mi) with other synthetics. Im going to try 12000km (7500mi) with this.

Is your engine noisy at all after few thousand miles? Or run heavy at all

Engine is not noisy and the car drives like it has always. I saw your other thread, I have the 18" xS rims and doesn't feel heavy.

Redline motor oil is not API certified. Is it wise to use it when the car is still under warranty?

Mobil 1 is $25 for 5 qts at WalMart. HUGE difference from $13 PER qt.

That said, a $65 (+ filter cost) oil change for full synthetic still isn't a bad deal, really.

So far I've used Royal Purple and Mobil 1. No ticking with either of them. Since I don't track my car, I'll stick with the Mobil 1 for $25 every 5k miles.

Question: can we use different grade of oil for different weather scenarios?

in summer time, here in Vegas, it gets around 110 degrees or more so a 10w-40 be appropriate or still use 5w-30 vice-versa in the winter.
