Loose Fuel Cap Warning Not Working?

For some reason on my 2011 xS Coupe I have developed this bad habit of not putting the fuel cap back on after refueling. I did it again today and realized it after driving for a couple of miles when someone pulled up next to me at a light and told me. The owners manual says there is a loose fuel cap warning that is supposed to turn on in the LCD displayed in the middle of the dashboard. Do I need to set it up or is it automatic? If this isn't owrking this will be the first and only thing i have discovered wrong with the car so far. It's fairly obvious to me now that this warning indicator woupld be helpful. Any insight on this?

What you are saying is that in your previous car, the fuel cap would tighten itself up? Btw you will get CEL working is you do leave it. I've never experienced it first hand.

When you need a smart a@# just go to a forum. The fuel filler on my old car was on the left side so I always saw it before getting in the car.
