slight pinging under load?

I have a 09 g37x auto. today i had my windows down and the music off. I was just driving normally, but when i gave it gas at about 30 miles and hour, it sounded like a slight pinging noise. I use 93 octane too. If i floor it from a stop, there is no noise. It only happens when the car is in motion and i give it gas. Anyone have any ideas what this noise could be? Never heard it before, but i always have my music on so that is probably why

Thanks, Shane

Weather temp? Has it done this on more than one tank of gas? Does it make a difference if your A/C is on or off? Engine cold or hot? Can you hear it when you are coasting? Standing still? Any oil / CEL's etc.?
I'm betting a forum member will have some good suggestions... I'm also thinking you are still on warranty... has the dealer checked it out yet?

it was about 75 degrees f. Havent noticed it before. The air was not on. Engine was up to proper temperature. It doesnt make any noise at idle, coasting, or flooring it, only when the car is moving and a slight throttle is involved. Dont have any CEL. Hope this helps maybe clear up what the problem (if it even is one) might be.

Had a light throttle ping in my 2001 Acura CL-S and a 1985 MR-2 . It was there for 140,000+ miles on the Acura and 184,000 miles on the Toyota and never hurt anything. YMMV.

Footlong;
That is something I've noticed on other cars I've owned over the years. (Mostly 70's cars with early smog systems.) But, as far as I know, not my G. Given my loss of hearing after 50 years of open headers, concerts, and headphones, could be it is just to "light" for me to hear?

Why not ask the service manager to take a listen?

Sure it's pinging and not a bearing or lifter noise? Some times they can be very similar.

Don't think it's a bearing as the noise only happens slight load when driving. As a lifter? Wouldn't you be able to hear it at all engine rpm (including idle)?

I would agree regarding bearing... It would be loud and constant throughout the rpm range. But lifter or rocker noise does depend on the rpm. Severe issues can be heard at idle... I'm not familiar with the internals of this engine but hydraulic lift change their " tension" depending on rpm range. A bad lifter will sound more like a loud clicking noise that gets louder or softer with rpm changes.

Just an FYI, Im hearing the same noise. I posted about it a few weeks ago and the concensus was that its normal for this engine.

My guess is its something with the complex timing setup.

Just add... bad lifters (or just noisy - not necessarily bad) also sound like diesel engines

Last thing... My G is on order... so when I get it.. I will let you know if I hear what you describe..

Not sure if this is the same sound I posted about before. There is a video in the link below.

Hmmm. It almost sounds like your oil is low and the crank is riding on the bearings.... Essentially that noise is exactly like a bearing noise not a lifter... Upper block noises sound more like a ticking noises...

Have you tried using a different oil or a higher weight oil just to see if it goes away? How many miles? Sometimes bad sludge causes this noise also.

Malu, it does sound like that on a little load cruising around. only on slight throttle. Have you figured it out yet? Does it make the car feel like its less performing?
