check engine light covered under warranty?

So my check engine light just tured on and I dropped my car to the dealer earlier while they were closed. I have a 2009 g37 coupe with only 20k miles on it. I noticed on the form that they charge $120 to run the diagnostic. I am wondering if I have to pay that fee since my car is still fully under warranty. Oh and yes I did tighten the gas cap with no luck =(

Thanks for any help!

Yes it should be covered under warranty unless you made some modification that triggered the CEL.

Next time take it to an auto parts store that will read the OBD code for you for free. That way you will know at least in general what the problem is before you take it to the dealership so you'll know if they're being straight with you when they tell you what's wrong.

try this! Disconnect the Negative on the battery for a minute. This will reset everything in your car. If that Light comes back on you have a serious problem. If you didn't tighten your gas cap that would be one reason for that. Your window will also be reset so you going to have to reprogram that. It's really easy though.

that's normal. you're car's stock, so you really have nothing to worry about it's more of a pre-caution for dealers. if they try to make you pay for the diagnostic, rip 'em a new one.

Also, in the US the EPA mandates that emmission systems have certain warranties that go beyond the standard 3/yr 60k
