Dealer Updated my ECM for 6MT fix???

Hey guys,

I took my 09 G37s into the dealer because every time I would shift from 1,2,3 it was like I was hitting something along the way and also going into R was very rough.

They just called me and said it's all fixed and to fix it they updated my ECM to a new software that just came out and topped off my clutch fluid.

I will see if it's in fact really fixed" when I go tonight to pick up the car.

But has anyone else heard of this? and now I have 2011 ECM in my car.

The service writer stated that the car is driving a lot smoother and gears are shifting nice and smooth now.

I turned mine in for the same problem. The dealership said the mechanic couldn't replicate the problem, so please keep us informed.

An ECM update is not going to fix any problems with your manual transmission. There is no data exchange between the manual transmission and the ECM, except the trans is in gear or neutral.

ECM update might make your engine run smoother. However, if you were having mechanical issues with the transmission, there will be no difference with the ECm update.

i had an issue with my RPMS not dropping properly....dealership said the ECM needed to be upgraded...upgraded it, picked the car up this morning and same problem was showing and it was actually worse.

They are going to have to call the technical headquarters or whatever crap they had to explain to me....so waiting for an outcome.

Oh God, well let's see what happens. If the issue is not fixed! I am going around the corner and bringing it right back to them.

FYI my car only has 13K miles on it.

Guys!!! picked up car. All I can say is wow, this new ECM update made the whole car feel different. Going from 1,2,3 is very smooth now and also just going from line in 1, is now very smooth and no more jerk feeling or hitting of walls or a feeling of bumping into thing's. I know guys may think it's all in my head but the whole car drives smoother and throttle lag is pretty much gone. Also down shifting is smooth I was able to go from 5th to 4th at 70mph and no jerk at all.

So if your having 6MT issues get the ECM update.

Thanks

Is this like a TSB where everyone can get it or just for people who are having problems?

Guys I took the car this morning, I wanted to make sure the fix was for real.

I did test runs up and down the road going from 1,2 and back to 1 from stand still no jerk feeling. But I would take your car into your dealer if your having the same issue as I. But yes the car drives smoother no more wave or jerk feeling.

How smooth a 6mt car drives depends on the way you shift. If you let out the clutch too early or too late will cause the car to jerk.

I'm still not understanding how an ECU update would change the characteristics of a manual transmission.
