no doubt! ^ you have a good point. but in my defense, the problems have been progressively getting WORSE since day ONE (i'm sure the car was test driven by others), not to mention the fact that the tech had previously mentioned that SOMETHING had not been seated correctly in the clutch assembly upon delivery. my question has progressed into - can one bad launch cause THIS much damage? no need to apologize, but a guy can hope/try/attempt...meh.

i'm all over the damn place man...too flustered to think correctly. can't you tell? lol

i had my car serviced today at the dealership and i made mention of the noise/chatter coming from the clutch when the car is in idle. tech said its normal and thats how it is with 6mt. kinda unrelated to your thread but its mentioned in some responses.

as for your particular issue, all i have to say is...whatever happens, happens...if the tech goes through and disassembles your car to get to the diagnosis of your problem, they've already did a lot of work and you'll most likely have a charge...they won't take it apart, say its your fault, and then give you the option of not having them fix it, put everything back together, and not collect any money for time spent.

just hope that you're covered...and if not, chalk it up to an expensive lesson. believe me, i've had quite a few EXPENSIVE lessons in my life. its normal.

Not going to help your situation right now but...next time, bring a cheaper car to the track. I did that with my CAD $23k Mazda 3 because I knew it can't be that expensive to fix it if anything breaks. I wouldn't take my $46k Infiniti to the track because I don't want to end up in your situation.

It's unlikely, but it COULD if you just let the clutch slip; the stock clutch is "just enough" to hold the power.

For example, if you powershift from 1->2, the clutch will not grab, and just slip, while the engine is revving at redline. Most people will ease up on the gas when they realize this, or step on the clutch pedal thinking they missed the shift, but if you let it keep spinning, then it would just overheat and glaze over.

I *have* seen clutches replaced under warranty. It's really rare, but not every car comes from the factory 100% perfect; that's what the warranty is for. If it was only one bad launch, and the clutch wasn't spinning for more than a second or so, you might be okay

Did you smell anything like cooked brakes or burning when you did the launch or immediately afterwards? If not, then it wasn't the launch.

...and now we wait

Mike thanks for your input. There actually was NO burnt clutch smell; albeit I have melt it before from reversing on steep hills in Seattle. I let the clutch slip and then let off it immediately when it didn't catch. Was too scared to let it keep going. We'll see...

For your sake, I hope you have a faulty clutch disk or pressure plate

Congrats! I still hate how fast these clutches overheat. I've never felt it overheat during launches and clutch drops tho.. only when backing up on really steep hills.

Congrats! Hopefully they will be replacing all the clutch components as they must have been wearing unevenly.

The stock clutch is pretty weak. This is the first car that I've had slip shifting from 1-2 at redline. I get no chatter and the takeup is smooth so I don't think there is anything amiss on mine.

how old are you eksigned? from the sound of it you sound like a little girl, but ill give you the benefit of the doubt and let you answer that. relax, learn from this, and if you cant afford to replace things on this car when you play with it in a way its not made for, then you should sell your car and buy a civic. just sayin....
