Paper cap from oil bottle fell in

Friend had this happen to him in his 2010 G37. The paper circle in the plastic cap (Red Line) fell into the engine as he poured oil into it. We tried to fish it out, but it just disappeared. Ugh.

Will this be a problem? Will it eventually work its way out to the oil pan, or get stuck in the oil pickup/screen of the oil pump, or just burn up?

Or does he have to take off the valve cover and fish it out?

Has this happened to anyone else?

HAHA. Yeah. this was me. We had the car started after the supercharger install. I was topping off the fluids and thank god he saw it. We tried to get it but no avail. It just fell further. You cant really leave something like that there. It get into a tight area and cause obsturction and then you get starvation.

SO, I took off the intake manifold and was able to get the valve cover off and everything back together ina bout 2 hours. Just was EXTREMELY fustrated after having finished everything just to take it apart again. Ugh.

If it were me, I'd fish it out as Fezzik did. Not worth the risk.

Use a funnel with a screen next time.

I have to ask ... how did the closure disk even get that far? Didn't you take it off the bottle along with the cap? I figure it would have been pretty obvious if it was still stuck to the bottle.

The redline bottle has the seal on it, and also the paper cap that goes into the lid. Well, I had a bottle open already and didnt check the seal cause it was almost empty from where I filled it up. (Oh by the way the car now takes right at 6 quarts of oil with oil cooler.) The cap was on and efuseakay saw that it was on and tried to warn me, but too late in it went in. I told efuseakay goodbye abruptly and went inside and said a few explitives. I just had the car running now I have to take i apart again. Blackjack has it right. using a funnel with a screen. I had one before but I cant find it. Guess what I am buying

Better a piece of paper then a rock. Motul makes an engine cleaner that you pour in with your oil, you may want to run that and change the oil again to be safe. Hopefully the paper will make its way down to the oil pan because it's going to get chewed up into tiny parts.

My friend dropped an 8mm wrench down his motor all the way to the oil pan. For some reason it's hard to take them off m3's. so we drained the motor and used a videostik to get it out.

haha, his buddy's shop had one laying around. They barely if ever use it.
It's pretty expensive. $250-300. Even comes with a little magnet attachment so you could pick up bolts etc.
