Is anyone else having the following problem? I have a 2010 Automatic. I'd estimate about 1 in 4 times when I first start the car, wait a few seconds while I buckle the seat belts, then try to take the car out of park, the button you push on the lever to shift out of park won't push in all the way therefore you can't get the shifter out of park.

It's almost like something is stuck. I then release the button and push it again and all is fine. I even thought maybe I was just trying to push the button too quickly so I've been making certain to push slowly and deliberately yet the problem still happens.

And yes, I have my foot on the brake when trying to shift out of park. Of course when I mention it at the dealership they can't find any problem with it.

To many people this wouldn't seem like a big issue but it just bugs the heck out of me each time it happens. Doesn't seem as if I should be having to fight the shift lever on a $40,000 car to get it out of park!

I have the same problem and I have gotten to the point where I am used to having to press the button twice to get out of park.
Maybe Infinti did this intentionally, but I can't imagine why.

 

I have the same problem...the 2nd try usually works though.

 

I dont have this problem. Take it to the dealer.

If that happens to me, I either push the brake all the way to the floor or take my foot off the brake and then press in the brake again and it works.

 

I have put 6,600 miles on my 2010 and have never had the problem.

Noticed this issue on my car.

I eliminated it by actually pushing on the brake when shifting. You aren't applying enough pressure to the brake.

I noticed this in the loaner G35 sedan I had last week. My 2009 G37S 7AT has never had this issue. Of course this is a step up from my rental ford fusion, where the floormat caught the accelerator - fun times...

 

Well, I've tested again the last couple of days. I could push the brake pedal through the floor and it still won't work. It always works the second time, you don't have to release and re-apply the brake.

But that's the point, it takes two times. I've also discovered, as others here stated, it's when the car is cold is when it always takes twice.

Dave, I guess it's just one of those quirks with the car. I haven't tested whether it will shift if I push the button again without doing something with the brake pedal. I've just learned to deal with it, even though it is frustrating.

 

Mine does this same thing but it doesn't really bother me. Second try usually gets it...

 

Same issue with my 2010 G37x. 2nd try always gets it but it still irritates me.

 

it's a timing thing. The shift lock sensor on the brakes doesn't engage as fast as on other cars. If you brake at the same time you try to shift out of park it will usually remain locked. Try deliberately braking first, then shifting. Just needs another half second in timing and this will tend to stop happening.
