7AT Shifting Issues
Not sure what RPM it is off the top of my head... I will check tomorrow and get back to you. From what it sounds like I might be the lucky one with this transmission lol.
Jo Kadosh the 370z does not have a dual clutch transmission.

Ok I went out and played with this for a little bit today and I am still very pleased with my transmission!!! When I had it to the floor in first I could hit the paddle at about 7100 or 7200 rpm. I could of coarse hit it a little later in higher gears. Downshifts and Upshifts were fast and firm through the entire rpm band and had very little lag. I did not notice any difference between using the paddles or the stick. My buddies mom has an 09 and he claims hers shifts really fast with the paddles as well, but obviously since I haven't driven it that is not entirely reliable.
I had an 09 withe the firmware update per TSB09-032 and I am very disappointed in the shifting lag and firmness after the flash. I should leave the old firmware alone. I can't even pass an 08/09 Avalon when the driver accelerate and doesn't let me pass on highway. This never happen with my 05 Legacy GT. I am not sure if the grounding kit can do something about this though. Some says it improves the shifting and sounds if you have an old model other says it's just a placebo effect. I try to find a tuner in the East coast to no avail. So my last resort is to install GTM TT or Stillen Super charge (I am still debating between these two) when my warranty is over.

It seems like your problem is you don't know how to drive the 7AT. If you're expecting it to just take off with a little gas, realize its in 7th gear on the highway. Its even in 7th gear rolling at 45 mph. It does this for fuel economy obviously, and of course the wisdom of Infiniti's decision to do this is debatable. You have to either floor it to get it to kick down or downshift yourself. Dont tell me you can't pass a freakin avalon if you downshift into 3rd or even 4th.
A TT kit will not solve these lag problems, but will make choosing the appropriate engine RPM even more essential. This is because of the phenomenon of boost threshold, and to a lesser extent, turbo lag. I don't know the spec's of GTMs kit, but every turbo has a certain RPM at which it begins to make boost.
Hope this helps.

ngchen and droogie,
I certainly don't have any issues getting it to automatically kick down at highway speeds. My G is really impressive from 60-80 mph. What I see as annoyances from a kickdown point of view are at low speeds - let's say you are gently accelerating in 2nd gear at 10 or 15 mph - and suddenly want to accelerate. Slam the pedal to the floor and nothing happens - it will not kickdown to 1st gear, just sits there in 2nd so you are left at 1500 or 2000 rpm - and a lot of cars can outrun you in that situation. It isn't real great at 40mph either - could use to kick down one more gear then as well. In either case you can do it with the paddles, but you have to be ready to upshift the same way.
droogle is right - the car is really pretty quick if you make sure that you have the rpm at the right place in the power band; I am just annoyed at the way the 7AT shifts, especially after driving the 370Z that does much better with the same tranny.

I haven't run into that situation yet with mine, but I will try it today and see if I have the same results. Overall, I consider it great news that the 370z has quicker shifts. This means that if the Z can do it, so can the G. We just have to figure out how.

Switching from a MT (Accord, 318i, 320i, E300, etc), 5AT, I could possibly don't know how to accustom to a 7AT. However, if it is so difficult then why bother make one that only certain driver can drive it. A friend of mine has an 08 G35x and the shift is better and firmer. Have you ever driven in French highway, specially in Paris beltway? When pass, I am not gentle on the gaz pedal and always floor when I have an opening spot. However, when flooring, the engine seems to choke or pause for a bit then decide to jump.
Thank you all for your valuable comments
^^ IMHO, I think you are just not using the right gears? I forget, do you have AT paddles? Personally, I just go DS and when cruising, "D". Of the cars you mentioned, that I have driven, the G37 is a rocket in comparison. I'm old and owned an Avalon once. :-) They are faster than most people think... But, seriously, you shouldn't have any problems passing one.
sorry for reviving an older thread. As some of the posters in this thread I also have issues witht he slow upshift in the 7AT. Downshifts are fast and feel excellent. In D the car drives perfectly. Its just the delay when in DS with upshifts.
I also know of 370z owners that dont have this problem at all.
If they are the same auto box, can i go into Nissan and ask for a 370z 7AT flash??

Did some looking and all I could find suggest the 7AT transmissions for both the G and the Z are the same Jatco JR710E pictured below. There is a JR711E which is used in the FX50 no doubt to support the VK50VE V8.
