I thought the ALTESSA AWD system was an equal or better traction system than LSD, even when considering just the rear wheels alone.
Isn't ALTESSA superior to LSD?

For best traction and handling, AWD + LSD is hard to beat. However, Nissan did not spec a rear LSD on the G35/37x (not even the S models).

Well, the GT-R has both the ATTESA E-TS system and also a LSD on the rear diff, if that means anything. But I don't know the answer to your question. Maybe some folks at nissan-specialist tuner shop would have a better idea about it.

In slick conditions, the open rear diff will let the wheel with the least traction spin (assuming VDC is off). I learned this the hard way trying to get my G35x unstuck during the blizzards last winter. A LSD would have helped a lot.

Oops. You probably are referring to the rear diff LSD. I bet there is little difference between the first and second gen cars but you will have to confirm this with Quaife. Anyone try to swap a RWD LSD rear diff into an AWD car?
