Two failed hard launches later - smelly clutch

I took delivery of a 08 6MT 2 weeks ago and wanted to test out the car. I revved it to 5k and dumped the clutch but something weird happened. The VDC light comes on and I am going about 1-2MPH while the RPM is still revving at 6-7 and a horrendous smell (clutch) comes out a few seconds later while I'm shifting to second. The car STILL does not go anywhere while it's in second (clutch not engaged) and the engine is revving at 4K RPM. The wheels, by the way, are not spinning like it should.

I know I burned my clutch in this scenario but how the hell am I supposed to do a hard launch when I can't even dump it at 5K? I've tried this one more time since then and the same thing happened.

Please advise!

PS I have drive MT before and I've never had this happen.

HMM, did your turn off the VDC with the button? it's the cars traction control! if not thats why u smoked your clutch! Not good bro!

Aren't you supposed to break the engine in? 2 weeks doesn't seem like a lot of time for break in.

lol why would you do it again if it didn't work the first time? I never really heard of anyone launching at 5k on a stock car or so.

It's a used 08 with 22K miles. I guess I must be used to dumping at high RPM because of my last car - Integra GSR. Will try the more "normal" RPM of 3-4

The two times I launched it were completely different. Once with VDC off and once with VDC on.

didn't know it was used, thought it was new when I first read your post. Seems like a lot of miles for an 08. Or is it just me?

maybe it's a bad clutch? ive dumped the clutch a few times, sometimes above 5k and my wheels did burn out, so im thinking its probably just an old clutch.

I knew it was a Honda when you said dumping at high RPM... lol

Completely different cars with different motors. Also, Teg is FF and G37 is FR.... if you hadn't noticed.

Feather it out, let it grab then dump it.

22k Isnt that bad for an 08, prob one of the newer ones around. Mine has 19xxx and i had it for a bit more then a 1 year 1/2

8400 miles on my 08.

I've dumped my clutch at 4k rpm before and the tires lit up like crazy. Anything over 3500 is tire smoke.

I have an '08 with over 30k on it, so you're not too high on mileage just yet.

As for dumping the clutch, my tires light up with anything over 4000. Like Vinnys Coupe said, feather it out a bit until it starts to grab, then dump it. And when you shift from 1st to 2nd, don't just dump it because it's possible to spin more than a little chirp. Feather it into a 2nd a tiny bit and you'll get a better grab.

yea dude its the RPM's. whenever i did that before the car would just sit there and the clutch would hold in lol. im only at 20,300mi right now and if i do about 3500 or less rpms its just fine even before the turbo.

I have an 08 with little under 14K miles, had it about a year and a half as well.
