Looking for information on turbochargers

Where can I find good written resources to learn everything anyone ever wanted to know regarding FI? Hard copy or electronic, doesn't matter. I know some basics, but not nearly as much as I would like to and will need to know in the near future. I need to get a lot more educated on installation, tuning, and maintenance of turbocharging systems.

howstuffworks.com is a nice starting point with illustrations. I'd just google for "how turbos work" and read everything that looks legit to get a wide sense of different opinions.

Soooooo, when's Betty getting TTed???

I'm guessing you're getting confused by turbo sizing...

This website is a bit outdated, but the information is still perfectly valid

http://www.ztechz.net/id4.html

Beyond that, there are so many different housing sizes, impeller sizes, ratios, bearing types, etc....

The industry is "sorta" standardized, but each manufactuer has their own designations which only makes it worse. PM me if you want some help researching a particular turbo or if you have a specific goal in mind.

I don't know yet. There's still a lot for me to learn beyond the limited amount that I know. Still a good ways in the future at this point. I'm not really very impulsive when it cones to modding, I like to research, plan, plan, research, plan, try to talk myself out if it, then execute. Gives me time to save up the money and possibly come to my senses.

Getting the parts/install/tuning at GTM would certainly have some distinct advantages, but obviously some negatives as well since I live in Texas. There's a number of local outfits that would jump at the chance, but advantages and disadvantages there too.

Still undecided.

I do the same thing as you BB. I research the crap out of everything and continue to talk myself out of it along the way. It's a hell of a way to avoid any buyer's remorse, but I keep doing it over and over with everything. I think I'm ADD and obsessive-compulsive all in one.
