Question about the power loss
Question about the power loss
I cannot seem to find any information on why Inifniti claims 330 HP and 270 TQ to the crank but on multiple dynos I have seen anywhere from 254 to 280 wHP and well under 230 ft/TQ Can someone explain this. It just does not seem like much of an improvement from the G35. I have seen multiple RSX' with full bolt ons walk all over a stock G35 and stock 350z not the 335i so much but if the G37 is suppost to be the 335i's competitor the dyno numbers sure are not matching up at all.
my question is why is it that say for example the 2006 RSX type s claims 201 at crank but dynos 170 to the wheels. BMW 335i claims 300 HP and TQ and puts out 280 to the wheels in both those categories. So why is that Inifniti takes such a huge loss... I mean even with full bolt ons + tune (from what i have seen on this site) the dyno doesnt even improve over 40 wHP and barely makes 30. Is this something that may be fixed in a future model or something that is being looked at? Or am I just overlooking the issue here.
lol I understand the whole power loss thing. I just dont understand why it is so much. I have been reading posts on this site for quite a while and I tohught I read a post that explained it but I guess not. Im just am about ready to get rid of my rsx for the G I just wondered if someone could explain it.
ok let's do this one by one lol
Dyno's are used to tell us more about gains rather than exact figure to the wheel.. Different dynos give different number which explains the variation in stock numbers
Different trannies have different losses. BMW's are known to have more efficient (better designed) gear boxes which might explain why they have less losses
I have come to believe (after spending loads of $$$) that the G37 is nicely tuned from the dealer and there's so litte you could squeeze out of its engine with NA mods. This isn't a vette lol once you go FI though, that's a different story

Keep in mind that the RSX weighs around 600 lbs less than the G coupe, and that N/A mods respond relatively quite well on the K20A2/Z1 engines.

It's not that the G loses so much power but rather because BMW tends to underrate their factory power output.
Do you know of the SRT-4? When it came out, the factory ratings were around 230 crank horsepower. It was not uncommon to find SRT-4s dynoing at 240 whp. Talk about underrated from the get go.
Yeah I just figured it would be more I guess. It just bugs me to see dumb hondas with $5k into them walking all over these sexy cars all day. But this is commin from someone who has been doin the walkin rather than the guy driving the G37 thinking to himself "why am I going to race this little POS honda, Im driving a $45,000 panty dropper" lol

I didn't buy my G to race Honda's. I bought it for the amazing looks inside and out, the luxury upgrades inside and out and yes, the 330HP engine that is plenty fast for me. I just love this car. It really is the best looking car out there today that costs under a $100,000. Definitely the best bang for your buck too. I have owned some pretty nice cars over the years, 2000 Corvette, 2002 Lexus GS400, 2004 Dodge Viper, 2005 BMW M3 Convertible, 2007 Mercedes Benz SL500 and I have to say that the G37s is one of my favorites. This might sound crazy to some of you but I like the G 10 x's more than my SL500. The SL500 is the most overpriced piece of **** on the road today. I dislike it the most out of all the cars i've had. I will never buy another Mercedes. I think I'm rambling now. Sorry.
