Shifting w/o the clutch will tear up your syncros if the revs aren't matched well.

Someone mentioned HP having something to do with it. The 335 has a nice clutch feel. I think the G's clutch has a more raw feel to it. In the previous generation is felt very on/off even moreso than the current generation. It does take some getting used to especially for new MT drivers. Even for experienced MT drivers- if you haven't driven a G 6MT it feels quite difernect from what you are used to.

If that's happening, then you're not doing it right. It's not hard at all.

Or maybe I'm wrong and will have a "I wore out my synchros and had them replaced under warranty" thread in the near future. Time will tell. So far, so good in the first 40K miles.

LOL... Or maybe you have the process for rev matching mastered.
I was just mentioning it to inform those who may not have done it before who want to go out and try it.

I don't mean to be an ***.....but you can't put it into gear if its not rev matched so I really can't see why everyone is saying you have to rev match it. Its been stated many times your only supposed to use like 1lb of force. That amount of force will only allow you to put it into gear when the revs are matched. If your using about 1lb of force and its not going in then do not use more force becuase you are then forcing it in and that's what will cause damage. Just try it go about 40 in 3rd gear and just switch to 4th using little pressure, once the RPM is matched, it will just pop into gear super dooper easily extra super smoothly lol.

Its easy just use little force like 1 or 2lb. If its not going in maybe your revs are not matched if they arent then give it a nice rev and as the revs will drop it will pop into gear at the right point.

No offense taken- What actually happens is when you are not rev matched, and you are pressing the shifter into gear, the syncros will normally contribute to the slow down the entire engine until it pops into gear. People don't generally know how much force is 1 lbs or 10 lbs in this situation. That's why it's harder on your syncros unless the revs are perfectly matched- regardless of how much pressure you are applying. 1 lbs may not be enough to cause significant and immediate damage but it is still harder on the syncros than being rev matched before you shift.

It's just the nature of the car-it's heavy and def has a "sweet spot". 1-2 is always going to be a b*tch, and with 330 bhp, you can feel it in this car, either you get used to it or get an auto tranny. Really, anyone who doesn't like the clutch (and there are many) would probably be happier with the auto. Personally, I love the 6MT, but it's def not for everyone.

Just went and test drove a PG 6MT today. I have driven a 02 WRX 5MT since it was new and I could barely launch the G. The engagement point is so high....I have never driven anything else like it. The main problem that I had is that the clutch pedal really wants to go all the way to the floor and then pop back quickly...so easy to miss that high takeup or just burn the **** out of it searching for it in its "normal" position. If the pedal was a bit heavier, it would be easier to launch but would cause you to cramp in traffic.

Otherwise, incredible car. Much better ride over bumps than I expected and almost too quiet. I had to drop the window for a bit to catch that beautiful music. Just crying out for a exhaust mod so you can hear it in the cabin a bit more. I was starting to get the hang of the clutch right when I was pulling into to the dealership. I think one more test drive will do it and then I don't know if I will be able to leave without one.

Sums it up well. I'm tall and have long legs so it took a bit of getting used to. I thought my knee would be at my chin when it engaged. The engagement point is very abrupt and quite high IMO. I got acclimated to it much quicker and easier than I thought I would. Not an issue anymore.

The more I drive my car the more I wish I had the auto. The clutch in this car is a major weakness IMO.

My last car was a 427r Mustang with a heavy clutch, it took about 100 miles of driving to get used to the 09 clutch as others have stated it engages further from the floor. I like it now and would not want a automatic but it definitely took some getting used to.

Betty, good to hear that you got used to it quick. I am going to take a few more test drives to see if I can improve before I drop some paper on this thing.

I am 6' 3" and got the same feeling that you described of having your knee way up. Good news was a 6'3" dude fit under the sunroof with some room to spare (as long as you don't mind having the seat cranked down). I was a bit worried about that.

You are an inch taller than me and I thought headroom would be an issue with the sunroof. I am not one of those guys with the seat laid back almost horizontal peeping over the steering wheel like an old lady, "gangsta style". But with the seat reclined moderately, I got used to the close headroom pretty quickly. Just like the clutch. I've stalled it a time or two when I wasn't paying attention, but I'm fine wit it now.

Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit i still stall out if I'm not paying attention. Worst is when you get caught checking out the girl next to you and start rolling backwards as the light turns green...
