30-40 degrees should not affect a new car and battery at all. even if car is left outside. you may just need an OEM battery replacement - try to get it under warranty have them run some battery diag on your battery. i live in michigan and the car has started up just fine after being left out in 15-20 degrees F.

If the battery can not hold the any charge...the car dies out.

if the the alternator is not charging anymore but the battery is good, you would see the volt gauge slowly drop which is a sign to rush to the garage...LOL

trust me, i know these thing....every kind of issue with batteries and alternators have happened to me
sorry dont want to sound belligerent but if u dont believe me, do this,
unhook the battery entirely , jump the car on the cables alone, unhook, and ur car will still be running without a battery.
cus i've driven hundreds of miles to my closest infiniti dealer (3hrs away) technically without a battery with the sole purpose to solve my electrical issue, and it turned out it was a dead battery.

Your battery is only used to start your vehicle, under normal conditions. Otherwise it runs on the alternator, and alternator alone.

When will your car use your battery?

If you have an 120amp alternator, and your accessories draw more than that ie a stereo system, it will take it from your battery as well. Otherwise, if you have a healthy alternator, on a completely stock vehicle, you could jump start your car and run it without a battery.

Also alternators produce different power outputs at different rpm's, so that would have to be taken in account as well.
