Checking oil - have question
Checking oil - have question
My car has 2700 miles on it and has never had an oil change. I've noticed that the last few times I've checked the oil there has been this black or dark gray material that leaves a slight streak along with the oil. I'm assuming this is normal and represents something to do with break in, because after I clean the dip stick and recheck the oil again I do not have the stain. I'm assuming it builds up on the dip stick after drivng it awhile. The black stuff does not have any reflective metal bits in it.
Just wondering if this is normal? Thanks.

Did you not have to take yours in for a complementary oil change at 1000mi (1500km)?
Even if not for free I always recommend an oil change after the break-in period. It is the "break"-in period and black/grey stuff in oil is not good... just a thought.

Below is a picture of the oil, notice the black streak. I do believe I saw this same thing when my Subaru WRX was new and I checked it's oil the first few times. I figured this was the same than and it is just micro pieces of debris as the engine breaks in - rings, sidewall of bore, etc. And where does is say you get a free oil change at 1200 miles or that you should get one at that mileage? I looked at the manual and service booklet and it only indcates at 3750 or so for first maintenance oil change.
