Yup, I'm aware of the whole consumption test and everything that needs to happen. I have three friends who've had engines replaced due to consumption. A VQ35 in a G35 sedan and two QR25s in Spec V's

As nice and comforting as that is, I'd just rather not go through the trouble

 

But you get a loaner for the entire time the car is in the shop... get to put miles on someone else's car

 

I have aG37X sedan for a little more than 2 months 4500 miles , i was due for an oil change , but i have to wait for the appointement for 2 weeks. SO i decided to check oil level, it was at the minimum. I was surprised, i had a quart , and it goes a bit above the middle of the two holes in the gauge.

On my last 2 Tl's i heve never checked oil, because the few time i did it was OK. I know know i should check my oil between oil change.

SO a quart between oil change is normal ?

 

I wouldn't say that's normal by any means. But did you ever check the oil when it was brand new? What I'm saying is you can't rule out that it came from the factory low? After the oil change, verify that it's full and THEN keep an eye on it.

 

you are right, i wonder if the prep guy did his job. i shouldn't have trust him first, and check it by myself

 

Every car is subject to PDI when it arrives at the dealership. They actually have to take it out and drive it.

There's still a chance it was missed though. I'm just as guilty of assuming that when the dealership changed the oil for my wife, it was full so when I changed it next time and it was low I don't know if it's because there was consumption/leak or if it just wasn't full from the last oil change. The only way to know for sure is to be religious about checking your oil and keep an eye on it - THEN you will know if you have an issue.

As for PDI, I'd like to believe that they're 1000% thorough but I saw the guy doing one at the local Nissan last time I was there and I wouldn't be surprised by anything. I'm not insinuating that all dealers are like that but instead pointing out that there's a chance - we don't know anything about this guy's dealer

 

I Just come back from visiting my family in Israel,
The G37 Oil change policy there is to change every 15,000 Kilometer ( about 9000 miles)
Is any one can tell me why we have to change oil every FU%&ING 4500 miles ???

Because they don't have any oil companies based in Israel pushing an agenda??? Or maybe their engines are built to higher spec and require less frequent oil changes. Yeah, that must be it...

Oh and BTW, it's 3750 miles or 7500 here. 7500 is closer to being reasonable.

 

At the dealer I worked at, PDI took about 90 minutes per car. Other dealers... who knows...

I know it was bad enough that we re-PDI'd all cars that were traded to us.

 

This is strange to me because I run the crap out of my G37s 6MT, I redline a few times a week and burn absolutely no oil between changes. I use royal purple and have 26K on the car. 26K hard Houston Texas hot weather running AC miles.

When I first came across this post my 2009 G37x was 2 weeks old with fewer than 1,000km. I checked the oil level and noticed it was down to almost the low level mark. I immediately topped it up with ½ litre of oil and it remains at the same level for the last two months.

So it must have been low from the factory. I will check this every week until I put it away for the winter.

My experience with the four Nissan/Infiniti vehicles with 3.5 and 3.7 litre engines has been very good.
