Limp Mode

OK so everyone knows I have a sickness when it comes to modding so I have another question....I noticed that Forgedperformance has an oil pan spacer for the G37. Could this possibly help the car fight the limp mode by keeping oil cooler on our track days??? It goes for $199.00

Doubt it will help the limp mode problem.. But the oil pan spacer will put I believe and extra quart of oil in you motor witch is a great thing when your pushing your car... Just make sure when you install it that all of the bolts are torqued down to the reccommended specs.. Last thing you want is an oil leak... Those suck big time

Probably the single biggest help would be if Stillen(or someone else) releases an oil cooler for the G37. I emailed them about it and got a generic response about how they don't have one right now but may in the future.

I realize that an oil cooler kit is desirable and affordable, but after buying a kit and installing it on my STi, I would seriously consider a DIY or even putting together a kit to sell for this car. It really is straightforward. The difficulty is only getting the size of sandwich adapter for the oil filter and work out the mounting of the cooler and the length and routing of the hoses. Mocal makes the cooler, sandwich plate and all related hardware. They are sold by Pegasus racing and others. http://www.batinc.net/mocal.htm If we can show that the cooler would definately help this issue, I might do the mod and post a DIY and/or sell a kit.

Sounds good....if you can make one and track it with no limp mode then we will know for sure....at this point, nobody can say for sure if the oil cooler will do the trick. I've called Technosquare and Tadashi had no idea either. I'd definately buy a kit from you if it works out.

They're fairly easy to make and a lot cheaper than application specific oil cooler kits. However you've got to take on all of the engineering work yourself to get it to work.

Just did a quick search but didn't find an answer... but has anyone confirmed that the oil temps are causing the limp mode?

The VQ37HR engine is equipped with an oil cooler. Below is a picture from the G37 service manual.

No conformation. It sounds like it might be the ECU/ECM or other management system that is doing this after it reads you lot of high RPM runs and hard breaking.

Hrrrrmmm... I can't imagine the ECU shutting it down just because of lots of high revs and hard braking. Limp mode is usually some sort of safety device to protect the powertrain/drivetrain. One of the sensors has to trigger this.

If we already have an oil cooler, maybe it's not up to the task of serious track use. Maybe it's something even more simple like coolant temps, and we just need a low temp t-stat.
