I stopped by ZCarGarage this morning on the way to work to stop by say hi and show off my shiny new red G37S. Rob (the owner of ZCarGarage) offered to throw my car on the dyno to see what my stock G could do. How could I say no?


First pic - apparently close to stoich, so no afr levels to be concerned about.

And now for the numbers. 267whp, 233 ft pounds of torque.

6MT or 5AT?

 

+1 i dont understand these dynoes its all diff with diff companies.. some read close to 300 and others read 267.. 267 is horrible starting at 330. lost of like 70hp..wtff

 

5AT. In retrospect, I wish I would have purchased a 6MT. I constantly want to downshift and I keep on instinctively look for the clutch. Gonna take a while to get used to running an automatic.

 

Well you lose anywhere from 15% to 18% from the hp/tq rated @ the flywheel (330 hp/270 tq) compared to rated at the wheels... Depending on your driveline... Weather conditions also play a HUGE factor in your numbers as well...

 

Why'd they stop at 6,500 RPM? If I remember right, Injen stopped at 7,500 RPM when they dyno'd my car

 

^True... Just checked my dyno sheet and they stopped at Redline...

 

As does gas choice, how much heat is in the dyno area, tires etc. It's not an exact science by any means.

Exactly - the baseline has been established. I don't see a need to mod the car right now since in it's stock form, it is actually really well done. I swear, the Infiniti engineers are automotive engineering artists.

 

Sounds about right...never think that the factory HP rating is actually what you are putting to the wheels. A lot of people get that mixed up with the ACTUAL HP they are putting on the ground. 330 HP is rated at the flywheel.

 

Autos typically lose 20% ... so hes close.... a lil over 19% i think...

 

330 HP is the manufacturer's estimate of engine output. It doesn't have to be exact and is usually a little optimistic. It's not uncommon depending on the drivetrain to lose as much as 20% or more of that number between the crankshaft and the ground. 330 HP - 20% = 264 HP.

 

Yeah Im with you on that one... The engineers made a hell of a car out the gate... Which makes it twice as hard for aftermarket parts to work... However it is slowly but surely being done!
