Im driving 80 constant MPH and i'm not sure if my RPM is a little high. Its at 4000 ? Is this right ? My other car drives at 3 or 2 something =T HELP

Hmmm..... Are you sure it's at 4K? It should be close to 4K but I don't think 4K on the dot... Wait, 5AT or 6MT? I have a 6MT and mine's usually revvin at around 3-3.5K... Can't remember exactly though... Close-Ratio 6SPD = High-Revving at Highway Speeds...

yes, 4k at 80 is high. however, if you have auto, i guess that is normal, 5 speed auto..

 

Yeah, that is about where mine spins at, definitely not a road trip car. This thing needs another 2 gears.

 

The new 7A will be in the G in another year or two.....

 

4k is high. My automatic does about 3.2k at 80. Sound's to me like it's not going into 5th gear. Have you tried shifting manually to see?

 

Was on the highway today and thought of this thread, I'm at exactly 3k RPM at 80MPH in 6th gear, so to the OP, 4k is not right for sure.

 

Yup mine is the same thing as SteveG37. It is exactly at 3k RPM at 80 MPH.

 

this is assuming driving on a level surface, right? maybe OP's condition was different.

 

Yes, level for sure, I don't think I've ever seen a hill here in south florida now that I think of it, with the exception of a landfill, LOL!!

 

Wow well i went to the dealership and they test drove it and said it's how the car is supposed to drive because its a high rev engine. I will surely look into this. I will try with the tiptronic today. Thanks everyone for your help it really is a big help.

 

I tried mine manually and it does about 4050 rpm at 80mph in 4th gear.
I'd try a different person at the dealer. If they still can't troubleshoot something this simple find a different dealer.

 

I know in the G35s and my moms BMW if you click the car over to tiptronic it automatically downshifts one gear.. Are you sure you were in auto when this happens?
