First 3000 miles?

I was recently told by the dealership that I should not drive the car above 3-4k RPM, untill I get 3000 miles on my car. The say it is not reccommended. Engine has to break in.

Is this statement true?
What damage could it cause to the engine if you would not wait untill first 3k miles?

3,000 miles? Typical break-in is 1,000 miles. Do a search on here, there is plenty of info on this topic.

What sucks about that theory is I bought my car at 800mi. You know all the guys that test drove the car is like how we test drove it, HARD. So I asked the sales guy about the break in period. He said it used be like that with older cars but there's no need for break in period for new ones. I just stayed quiet.

Don't listen to the dealership, read your manual. Just passed the 1200 mark on mine.

He was telling the truth. Some people are just woosies. I redlined my damn car out of the dealership.

He is correct. The break-in period is really just a suggestion. Rule of thumb for me, two tanks of gas, oil change, ~500 miles, cars broken in!

I asked again another guy from the dealership (service department guy) about the first 3k miles, his response was:
"You can redline your G from the first day of purchase or drive it above 5k RPM everyday, but in future, when the car would have 6k-12k you would feel lack in acceleration in comparisson to the G37 that was driven properly first 3k miles."

"We dont give this suggestion because we just want you to drive safe, we give this suggestion since we deal with these cars on daily basis."

Well he has a point I think.

Let me ask you this.. Did you lease or purchase your car?? If you leased it then there's probably a reason why they wan't you to spend twice as long on the "break-in" as even Infiniti recommends. You wait til 3000 miles LOL

If its a lease, drive the **** out of it from mile 1, redline it out of the dealership, however if you bought it and want to keep it after warranty id take it easy at least the first 500 miles. Thats what I do anyways.
