2008 G37S Acceleration Lag

The weirdest thing happened to me on the Interstate last week. I was traveling 60 mph (speed limit 70) in the middle lane of 3 lanes of heavy traffic when an opening of about 10 car lengths came open in the left lane. When I punched the accelerator to move into the left lane, the engine revved up, but there was a slight delay in the response from the transmission. Has anyone else experienced this lack of response from your G37S??

I only experience serious lag when I downshift to either 2 or 1 gear, and that can be pretty dangerous since the car just doesn't move for 2 seconds or so.

Were you using manual shift mode?

That will hapensometimes when the timing isn't quite right.

This pretty much happens to all AT cars. The delay is from the transmission downshifting to a lower gear. I have experienced this type of delay in every automatic car I've ever owned. There might be slightly more delay for a G35/37 due to the fact that our transmissions match the engine revs before the downshift occurs.

No, I was in full automatic mode. It also happened to me since while using the paddle shifters. I was hoping it was not the transmission acting funny. In reply to "anotha", I was returning to Florida from Louisiana and had about 2200 miles on it. Scared the crap out of me.

it fairly common in auto. car like said above ... the tranny in the g is the same as any other auto tranny out there. Hopefully we'll get something along the line of BMW's SMG or Audi DSG until then make mine 6mt.

Thanks "isso01". I was on the verge of getting the 6mt, but I live in lots of stop and go traffic and thought I could still have some fun shifting with the paddles if I wanted to.

Just be careful when passing because sometimes that AT lag takes a few seconds to kick in and it can be dangerous to pass people or pull out in front of traffic.

I hate that...the trick is tho, pin it to the floor first then down shift.

It's an automatic and it's normal. It get rid of the lag, you just step on the gas twice. basically floor it, release and floor it again.

Yep, it's because it's really just an automatic transmission, not a sequential manual or DSG-style manual transmission. You're still dealing with clutch packs and an automatic 'brain'.

I guess I will just have to live with it and be careful while passing others, but I will definately consider this issue when buying my next car! I work on some of the fastest computers known to man, yet they are still not fast enough for me. I'm just an impatient ***hole that wants everything to react as fast as I can think it!
