future upgrades

will the G37 have many effective upgrades with it having a high compression ratio?

Im trying to decide between a few cars and i know its not the most important thing in a car, but id like a car that i can modify a little bit.

the G37 has lots of potential. sometimes you have to be patient but parts are coming out quicker than you expect. it took me a few weeks to get my G sedan back and i was the first in the country to turbo a '06 6 speed G sedan but it paid off.

i know all the companies are doing R&D for parts on the G37 so it's a good contender.

Well I wouldnt consider "good potential" strapping on forced induction. In that case Honda Civics, Saturns and every economy ****box have "potential."

Plus I think the original poster isn't looking to do all of that.

A stroker kit and turbo kit? That's a lot of money and you lose some driveability

The G37 is going to be a mid 13 second car at best with bolt ons. Sure, a few guys may get low 13s with a stripped car and drag radials, but that doesn't count to me when 335i coupes (with JB2s) are putting down high 12s/low 13s with full interior. It all depends what you want out of the vehicle. I assume you want something fast out of the box, since you said you only want to mod "a little."
Pick your car wisely my friend

Have you ever owned an FI car, that did not come FI from the factory? The thing is transformed into a beast (provided you do everything right). I know a lot of people like to say "It's still the same car if you dont' floor it" yea right.

I'll believe that 13.2 when I see the video

Go Supercharger if you're concerned with being a daily driver. I'm sure stillen is working a kit as we speak.

i think the whole high compression=no FI is invalid since E46 M3s and S2000s are boosing with good power safely.

as far as cost the Z and previous G models have turbo kits and supercharger kits at $3K-$5 so you can go boost for $6K max installed with a good deal and tune.

no doubt the 335is are great...even better chipped...but i think you better do some research on a bimmer forum and see how many are happy with them and how many are having problems. sure they are fun...but that cheap mod can be very expensive if something goes wrong.

ummmm no. on a cold night with a AWESOME driver...perfect launch...i don't see a stockie breaking 13.6s....sorry to say, the G was not made into a drag car. there is a thread i started about a 335i guy going up against an auto G37S. right off the bat he was already out ahead...but after stopped pulling after the 2nd gear change. the G37S is sweet on the roll...not the dig.

Well the fact is, there are a plethora of blown VQ motors from FI. I don't know how long you have been a 350z/G3x owner. But I had my 350z from 2002-2007 (i am just stating this for the purpose of my post, not to try and say im better or anything ). I remember reading post after post after post about blown VQs over the years. I think there was up to 30 members with blown motors at one time. I am not kidding, check my350z. Keep in mind this was on the VQ35, who's compression wasn't as high as the G37's.

FI + high compression = trouble. There's no way around it unfortunately. Eventually the motor will take a toll, Sooner than later on previous NA engines which have been boosted. You get to see what blowby and blue smoke are all about . It's either a slow death, or a loud death.

By the way cvt, i think mildly boosting an NA motor is "ok." But it usually requires the use of custom supercharger pulleys etc. I did this on a previous car of mine and the thing is still running. But most people who buy S/C's, want their moneys worth and usually go bananas with the boost just to have a nice dyno sheet. So I normally just say no to FI. I have even thought about boosting my G35 and having a custom pulley made which is big in diameter. But I decided against it since I will be putting a lot of miles on it for work.

I have done tons of research on 335i's, I may buy one, I am on the fence. I have not heard of many problems with the JB2 mod, which is a low 13/high 12 mod from what I've seen. But I am struggling with the fact that I may be a BMW owner. I don't know if I fit into that "yuppie/upscale/i_play_golf_every_chance_i_get" look. Sometimes it's good to be a rice boy

yea i have. and have driven plenty. i know its not the best thing to drive but it is possible especially if you have the kit you want the power. My cousin has a sti with a FP red turbo on the streets and drives it everyday. I also know someone who commutes in a twin turbo Z with no problems.
