I've got no problem passing a Cobalt SS in my SVT Focus (my current daily driver). I just wait until we hit 175km/h. (The Cobalt has a speed limiter)

haha. I am glad to know the G35c can indeed outrun a Cobalt SS. I can only imagine what those cobat drivers are telling their friends now though
If you are not downshifting into 4th or 3rd gear to pass (or even 2nd!), that is your problem. As to driving schools, Bob Bondurant has a very good one that runs $1000+ . Skip Barber also runs an excellent school that runs anywhere from $600 to $3K+. Google race driving schools and pick whichever one suits your taste and wallet. But if you are unsuccessfully trying to pass a Cobalt in 5th gear, please go quickly.

LOL you guys are rough. For the record, I am an amateur motorcycle road racer with CCS (championship cup series). I know how to properly downshift I think
The thing is, I try to keep my racing on the race track, not on the streets.
(Keyword: Try. I raced an '07 350z with an Injen exhaust 10 minutes ago at a light and smoked him)

Anyway, I looked up the Cobalt SS on MotorTrend. They are not that slow. 0-60 in 6.1 and 1/4 in 14.4. Isnt that fairly close to the G35c

A g35 would get spanked by a 35HR 350Z...are you sure it was an 07'? you know stock with a decent driver they run 13.3 to 13.5s on stock tires.

Thanks 810, BTW are you from Michigan cause that's an area code from near me?

Anyways guys yeah I'm guilty of threadjacking Ill try N be better a about that.... but just to continue discussion I must admit I am guilty of being an ultra conservative and cautious G driver thus far. My shifts are getting better and better but I only downshift from 6th to 5th which is like the safest gears to learn on.

I know upshifting and skipping a gear like 2nd to 4th is bad but What's the deal with double downshifting for even more pickup? Like being at 45 MPH in 6th but shifting to 4th to really pick it up? Any extra cautions there? Or is it just a matter of needing more gas to match revs?

Also am I hurting the cluth or gears to start in 2nd gear from a stop if I'm lazy? 1st gear picks up so quick that sometimes Im lazy to start on it. The car feels like its got enough torque to do regular 2nd gear starts it usually never sputters though it does require some more throttle and cluth action..

Going from 6th ----> directly to 4th is fine. In actual racing, I go from 6th gear all the way to 3rd sometimes (bike racing). It's about keeping your engine at the proper speed. If the car feels like it's bogging, you are in too high of a gear. The G's like being above 2500rpms when cruising. For the record, if I'm going 45mph I'm usually in 5th

Regarding starting in 2nd: Not hurting anything. I do it myself out of laziness sometimes.

It will become 2nd nature soon, just keep driving it. No point in thinking about it too much.

810 is my race number

I'm positive it was the 35HR motor. It's all driver my man. I had a 350z with Top speed headers, injen exhaust, AAM flash, pulley blah blah blah. I used to out run older C5's and ram air trans ams from stop lights.

Shifting from 2nd to 4th or 1st to 3rd or 3rd to 5th and so on arent bad. Just make sure your not shifting up 2 gears when your at like 2500k rpms or something that low. That is the reason why starting in 2nd all the time isnt very good because you kinda have to ride the clutch and you start out at such low rpms. Its not gonna kill the car but it's not good for it. IMO Your better off starting in first and jumping up 2 gears anytime your over like 4000 rpms.

lol, Best post on this whole thread topic! haha LMFAO, the name of it just makes me laugh... "Wet Walnuts" wtf? haha

Why the hell would anyone have a problem passing a damn Colbalt? We trap faster then they do, we got more power, what's the problem? Oh what... Weight? eh bull-ish. Just floor it and burn that bastage into the rear mirror.

If you cant pass a Colbalt in a G, you have more problems then just that. IMO.

You have to watch them Colbalt *****... LOL j/k
Just downshift and you're off... Take time to identify the top speeds for each of your gears, that way you will know exactly where to safely downshift when needed.
But yeah passing power is this car's best performance attribute IMO.
