paddle shifters

i must say that i have gotten very used to the paddle shifters, and i am so fond of them that i will never go back to an manual car.

the technology is getting so good, i think standard cars will be out dated in about 10 years.

i was really impressed with the high end torque on the g37, i can feel the power difference in the higher speeds compared to my old 350z

anyway, how do u guys feel about the fact that paddle shifters will start to become available on most luxury sports cars vs standard driving?

Its the main reason I went w/ the Sport version. It looks great but I still use the sticker shifter more since I tend to drive w/ just one hand on the wheel

I like the feature, but why did Infiniti not mount them to the steering wheel?

I think I read in oneof the car mags that the paddle shifters on a Porsche are faster in the quarter mile than the 6 speed. 10 years might be too conservative.

Paddle shifters are the bomb! I'm through the break-in and am shifting now at 6500-7000 and it's a bullit. The sound is unreal. I was passing a new Corvette going in oposite directions from a stoplight and this thing screams so loud that I couldn't hear him at all and obviously he could hear me because he whips his head around to see "just what the heck was that?!"

Same here. I'm not down with that 10-2 o'clock trash.. But I'm still in the 5AT vs 6MT decision phase. I'm getting very close tho, just waiting for those test drives.

I like them where they are on the G.
That way when I am turning the wheel I always know where the paddles are and I don't have to interrupt my steering motion to shift. But then again when I am turning, I normally use the floor shifter.
On the Lexus IS th epaddles were on the steerign wheel and moved with the wheel. I didn't like that at all.

^^Yeah, they are fixed to the column for a reason and that reason is that you ALWAYS know where they are. I have said this before, "if it's good enough for the $450,000 LP640 Lambo it should be good enough for Infiniti."

I'm taking to the track this friday. Will try it in D mode DS mode and then manual mode... just trying to figure out which RPM to shift at for each gear.

I'll go on record that DS mode(VDC off) will be the winner. You gotta stand on it (brakes......) tho! Have a blast! Launch at 5530rpm

I love the paddle shifters. The only bad part is that you have to use them from a roll. The stick is awesome from a stop though. Its like have a stick shift whenever you want.

There is no way any type of automatic, even with cool new paddle shifters, will ever take the place of a manual to a real driver. No matter how responsive it may be, its not the same. Just my .02.
