There's 91 octane at maybe half of the stations around here, but everyone sells 93. Access to 93 octane isn't an issue.

Planning on a tune this Spring 2021. Bought the EcuTek ProECU cable and key a few weeks ago.
Thank you for being a man with some class. It's so annoying that the majority of people you see or hear about getting tunes, all they care about is the stupid flame and burble maps.

My car is bone stock but with a custom exhaust it still burbles pretty good if you downshift or let off the gas at the right RPM.

OK Boomer.

I genuinely don't get the flame map thing, but I also don't do nighttime meet ups. That seems a F&F kind of thing that I was always too old for.

The burble map, however... honestly, I absolutely love the crackle of the F-Type. But my car isn't a Jag, no matter what I do to it. And that's OK.

Go right ahead and get it out of your system. You'll see no difference whatsoever, but you'll certainly spend more money for the experience. Boomer, your compression and timing is optimized for 91. If you pump 93 nothing will happen, but if you pump 87 for the cost savings, you'll probably observe a slight loss in power and start knocking. Don't do it.

Unless you get tuned for 93, or 91 isn't available to you, stick with 91.

Ahh, duly noted. All I've ever seen is that premium in general is required, never anything specifically about 91 or 93.
Don't worry, I'm never going to put in normal gas. I know the cars have knock sensors but I don't care about the cost savings anyway. I've been getting premium for several years now and I'm used to the additional cost.
I'd definitely be interested to see what HP and TQ gains you get from your street tune. I'm in the same boat as you. I want to tune but it's probably going to be a few years until I can afford it, plus I'd want more supporting mods to make it worth while.

I'm not planning to dyno before/after, so that's not going to happen. All you're going to get are opinions, not numbers. Sorry.

I'm sure your opinion(s) will suffice. You know more than I do.

LOL, I don't know about that. Usually when you learn something it only increases the depth of what else you don't know.

It's all just a hack.

So... back to fuel discussion?

I'd suggest you get a 93 tune as your 'primary' performance tune, and 89-90 tune to switch to if you are in the 'oh crap I'm out of gas and this station only has mexican 89' situation. From what I've read on ECUtek you can switch on the fly with the steering wheel controls. I'm with you, flame maps aren't worth killing my RHFCs and burble map not necessary with FI header-back exhaust. Lots of the exotics sound that way due to individual throttle bodies on the suck side of the engine, not the exhaust itself. (CSB: Helped a friend engineer Suzuki throttle bodies off a 1600cc bullet bike on a 1.8L Miata - sounded *amazeballs*)

Anti-theft for me is the stick shift.

Valet - it would be neat that had a map with a hard 2500 RPM limit, but LOL. Stock, performance, crappy gas maps should be all you need to get the benefit and also be able to protect the engine.

I believe the valet map can be modified a bit. Mine is a hard stop at 3500 due to I thought 40 or 35 (cant remember)top speed might of been a bit dangerous. I think 2800 might be perfect because my car hits around 75 top speed in valet and I was looking more for 65. 2500 rpm might be a bit difficult to manage in 1st gear only.

Side note ,had my car aligned (Wheels) and glad I had valet .he hit 3500 in first and second. Got upset when he hit that in second gear but proceeded to get on the highway for the final test drive so top speed of 40 would not in a 70 mph zone.Glad we have tunes to protect our engine from other people.

Not trying to tell you what to do just some advice
map 1: performance 93

map 2: performance 91. Or 91with no timing for economical purposes

Map 3: valet with rpm limit set between 2800 to 3500 . I know you have rear end gears ,not sure how your speeds are to rpm.

Map 4: anti theft

Valet Mode sounds like a great way to cause an accident.

Oh, no that's totally fine. I like the crackles of the F-type too. It's when people get their car tuned and it literally sounds like someone is shooting up the place. I love a good snap crackle and pop, but machine guns.... No lol Some people even call those "AK-47" maps...

That's a fair point. Hadn't thought about it like that until now.

There should be accompanying signage in the cabin: "This car is in Valet Mode"
