IF, big IF, where would the best place be to do it? Direct trade-in for new car or private sale or what?

 

I sold mine through auto-trader ... it took about a month to sell but I got $2500 more than Carmax offered me by selling it private party.

If you trade it in through a dealer there is a tax advantage as you will only pay tax on the difference between the trade in amount and the new car. For me this still wasn't enough to justify not selling mine private party.
