Yo Necessito Springs

Ok, so after taking Southbound Preston to Westbound Arapaho at 45 this morning and not sliding as much as I thought, I realized that better rubber and suspension would only make this situation better (this type of "logic" gets me in trouble quite often).

So I spent some time in a meeting that I really didn't care much about researching springs and there was quite a bit of info to dig through and I really only spent time looking at the S & H Techs. I have an 06 6MT, so I've got the sports, the 19s, and I even got the Rear Active Steering (I have so many questions about this system).

So I need to know a good setup that will give me a firm spring rate, but not one that will make my kidneys bleed too much. I'm pretty sure I know which rubber I want, but I'm not sure if it will go on these wheels or new wheels.

Bottom line, I need to lose the 4x4 and get low. I like aggressive low, but not scratching the bottom of the car driving over a pencil if you know what I mean. I like coil overs, but I don't need to be that sophisticated.

Anyways, thoughts, ideas, please send them all my way.

i'd say go with tein basic coilovers. they're not fully adjustable, but they do the job for lowering your car and make it more aggressive while handling. good for street performance, and higher up like the tein flex and edfc and you're in track suspension territory. But if you're on a budget, then 350z s and h techs will give you the spring rates that you desire. Just be aware that eventually you'll need new dampers to go with them. So I would suggest getting coilovers from the start.

Go ahead and get new wheels too for style. The stock 19's look good, but you can't beat a good deep dish wheel. Again, if you're on a budget, be aware that you'll probably want to get a front and rear camber kit and front a-arms if you're goin lower than about 1" front and rear to save your tires. You'll also want a good place to align it all once you're done. I haven't checked with firestone if they do the lifetime alignment on aftermarket wheels and suspension.

By the way, what tires are you getting? I still haven't figured out if the Toyo T1R are unidirectional.

H techs will get you there if you're on a budget, yes you will have to replace the dampers and eventually the shock and eventually this and eventually that and eventually......you will end up buying coilovers. Camber kit is a super huge upgrade on your lowered ride as well. Your tires will thank you. I have tein H techs, with Camber kit front and rear, They are stiff but not unbearable. I know the time will come to replace the shocks and such but 20,000 miles on them and I am starting to feel a little wear on the shocks at this point. They don't lower the car too much, but with 19's it seem to look just right, almost like it was meant to be.

Toyo Proxes T1R are a popular tire amongst the G crowd. I have had 2 sets of rears (275/35/19) and I love them. Hard to imagine that stock crap after having these.

Thanks for the input gents...

Though my name (created a number of years ago) infers that I'm on a budget, I've grown up and become quite particular about doing things right. I was expecting to do springs and at least the camber kits. Never thought about replacing the front A-arms. I really don't want to slam it all to hell, because I like to be able to not have to worry about every single bump in the road. Takes away from the enjoyment of actually drivin the damn thing.

If you've got pics of your ride on the 19s with the H techs, I'd love to see them. My biggest goal is just to get rid of the wheel gap. Coilovers would allow me to perfect that but I'm just not sure it's really going to be worth the time. If you're just not feeling the shocks go out at 20k, then I would be more than fine with that.

In regards to tires, it's not usually the brand of choice, but I have had a TON of luck and enjoyment with Khumo's Ecsta ASX's. They're the asymmetrical version of the Ecsta EX's. They've done well for me in the past and have been able to handle me and my drastic driving style. I'm definitely open to opinions on them if anyone has given them a shot. I convinced a buddy of mine with a nice 5 series to slap a set of those on his fronts and he's in love with them. Quite, comfortable, and still hold up. This is after driving on a set of the S-03s.

I've had KDW2s on my old car and they are awesome dry or wet. They also have the best looking tread pattern imo.

Ok, so which is the more aggressive drop and which is the more aggressive spring rate or which is both?

Thanks for the links... At first I wasn't sure, but there are a few pics in there that make the H Techs look not too shabby. Maybe I want more aggressive than I'm letting on..
