Just finished this and the most difficult thing was the routing of the belt. I found this and it answered my questions.

Thanks for DIY did everything the same essentially...
I drove car up on ramps, removed overflow tank, I had the serpentine belt tool, removed lower plastic cover, removed belt easily just unhooked from top with the lower tensioner pulley being last. Just twisted it out in an angle nothing to remove. When I put belt on started from right to left (passenger side to drivers side) with the tension-er pulley being the third to route over...you have to twist the belt to get it in so don't do the tensioner pulley last...the rest was easy ended up routing on drivers side end pulleys last...fit right over...no problems.

The breaker bar goes into the tensioner hole?? You dont need to add a socket to breaker bar?? So breaker goes into hole & u pull up & insert the hex wrench??

Sorry, i just looked at the car & had not removed anything. (Planning stage.)

Thanks n advance

That would be correct ( you actually push/pull it left which pulls it up) if you have a breaker bar that is 3/8 and will fit in that area. No socket - its a square hole. Most people claim it does not fit.
I tried to get my breaker bar in that area but it was a bit tight for it. I think I could have made it fit -maybe- but I had already purchased this:

Worked great...

God I can't seem to learn how to use that tool though I have heard a lot of folks use it & said it was helpful. Yes, I search YouTube but don't see anything

It wouldn't hurt. Tensioner may be operating properly now, but may have issues after being manipulated during belt change. Cheap insurance not to have to do the job twice.

Ah it aint nothing but a thin breaker bar/socket wrench with attachments necessary for typical belt tensioners.

There are groves that show the tensioner is within range when you release it. Once it goes outside of that range good idea to change it. If it is within the range should be fine....

Hi my car is at about 80k. Saw this post and bought a serpentine belt. I went to a local repair shop recommended by a friend and asked them for a quote to change my belt out. They recommended that I buy a serpentine belt kit and replacing the parts around the belt like the tensioner, pulley, and water pump. Does this sound legit?

I agree with the tensioner, maybe pulleys if bad but the water pump is internal to the engine. Sounds like they're not familiar with this engine.

Yeah its a smaller auto body shop so I doubt they've done too much work on these engines. After doing some research I'll probably end up swapping out the idler pulleys (I think we got 2 grooved and 1 smooth) and the tensioner. Should I purchase OEM? I'll have peace of mind with OEM but the price difference between OEM and GATES or DAYCO is hard to ignore. Also heard that OEM parts are usually just re-branded but can't confirm.

Thanks for the write-up!

The Dealership wanted to charge $240 for this service last week, over $150 for the belt alone!

Important Note: The dealership told me that generally these belts stretch out before they start to crack and look old. If you have an old(er) belt, it might be good to check if your tensioner is maxed out. If it is, you probably need a new belt.

Maybe someone can confirm or deny, but I thought Bando is the OEM supplier for their belts.

Could be wrong though...
