So I read through this long thread and I have a question before doing this and having the possible idle issues after cleaning the TB. My car is a 2010 with 22k miles. Doesn't get driven a great deal. I don't have the feeling of the car wanting to stall. What I do experience on occasions is what seems to be rough or inconsistent idle when driving in heavy traffic. Also, after a drive in heavy traffic, if I rev slightly in park up to around 2k, the rpm would get stuck and hover around 1500-2000 rpm for a few seconds before dropping back down to around 500. I called couple shops to asked and they recommended against cleaning the TB because it may worsen the idle (I assume they are talking about the idle issues some have here after cleaning and the relearn process).
So, would cleaning the TB help my issues?

I will say yes. I had the same issue, no stalling just rough idle every now and then. At a light the needle would dip and bounce every so often. I had hesitation but not sure if it was the transmission lag though.

After a cleaning , mine wasnt as dirty as some of the other people here, the rough idle completely disappeared. I had to double check my RPM's at idle because it was so quiet I thought the engine turned off.
Worth a shot.

Thanks. That's what I used to think when I first bought the car. The idle was so smooth and quiet, I sometimes think the car is off when I'm at a red light. Now it's a little rough because it dips down to around 500. I just don't know why it gets stuck and hovers around 1500-2000 rpm if I idle in park, after driving in heavy traffic. It seems after I turn the car off and restart it, that hovering thing goes away. I'll try the cleaning and hope it doesn't cause any idle issues that some have experienced. I don't plan to disconnect the battery or any harness and not moving the butterfly valve. Hopefully that should prevent any issues.

Thanks so much for posting this!!! My '08 G37s had been having problems starting as well as rpm's being erratic at stop lights. This was a cheap and simple fix.

Hey guys, I need some opinions on this:

I have an 08 5AT with 53k miles on it and the throttle bodies have never been cleaned. Recently, my car has been acting funny. Namely, when I've been driving on the highway a couple times my car cannot accelerate and the accelerator does not operate correctly. The rpm's just idle and the car decelerates and the CEL and SLIP light comes on.

When I turn the car off and back on again, it seems to be ok but with only the CEL light on. I took it to Autozone to read the codes and they are:

Throttle position sensor / APP sensor circuit range, performance problem- APP 2 signals do not agree.
Probable cause: open/short circuit condition, poor electrical connection, failed TP sensor, failed APP sensor

A mechanic told me I could try cleaning my throttle bodies, else replace the throttle bodies which would be expensive. I'm not sure this is correct advice.

My question is, will cleaning the throttle bodies fix this? or if I take it to the dealer, will they charge me up the *** to fix? Thanks.

Just cleaned the TB using drifter's method.

Just a little bit dirty. Noticed an improvement with acceleration. Used to have hesitation or lag when flooring the pedal.
Wondering if it's okay to use a soft brush to clean the TB.

I was just wondering I have the same setup as you Q8y_drifter the Injen intake. when you cleaned out the throttle body please tell me we don't have to remove the bumper again because that gonna be a pain in the a$$ !!!

RTom919, regardless of the transmission used, if a vehicle has a throttle body, and uses fossil fuels, it will get dirty (the TB that is).

I have a 2010 with 22,000 miles and it stalled 3 times at startup. Since I was still under warranty, I decided to take it to the dealer just to see what they say. As I suspected, it was the TB. But instead of cleaning it or performing a FI service, they just replaced them. They said it is not recommended to clean the TBs due to possible idle problems after (relearn process). Car runs much smoother now, even in traffic. I actually enjoy driving the G now.

Just cleaned the TB's and there is a noticeable improvement with acceleration.

cleaned the TB yesterday, cleaned the Mass Airflow sensors, ran seafoam solution and did ECU reset. noticed improvements in acceleration, thanks!
