I've been reading a lot of threads about applying vinyl overlays on the lights and such, and everyone seems to say it is easy to remove. I'm just wondering how to remove it. Another question, which would be better, painting the housing of the lights black (pain in the ***) or to apply overlays on them? is the difference huge?

 

oh.. another question.. what about a hot summers day, would that have any effect? i.e. peeling or shrinking etc etc..

 

Paint looks a million times better than overlays. IMO overlays are more of a PITA to install than it is to paint. lol To remove overlays though is not too hard, just heat them up and peel off. They do tear and shred kinda easy in car washes and stuff like that.

 

If money is not an issue. Get the housing painted. I agree with stoof.

so the only way to paint the housing would be to bake the lights and take them apart right? wouldnt that be more of a PITA than to stick a piece of vinyl on the headlight? I'm just looking for opinions cause im planning on getting a G37s this summer.. i also want to black out the roof, but after knowing that it shreds easily.. im having second thoughts..? so that means it doesnt stand well against harsh weather? if i were to paint the roof instead.. what should i use? or i shouldnt even be doing this myself to begin with? thanksss~~

 

You can have people paint it and do all that work for you, that's why I said if money isn't an issue

My roof overlay does not shred at all. I've had it for months and have been through numerous washes. It holds up fine. If there's something that's going to scratch up the roof overlay, it'll also scratch up the paint.

get yours headlights done professionaly.. overlays don't belong on a G37 lol

 

I'd love to have it done professionally.. but the thing is im in Canada.. and im not aware of shops that would do this.. cause if i did.. i wouldnt even be considering overlays cause i agree with G37Sam.

AND THAT IS WHY, i want to find out more on the alternative easier method (vinyl) since i have no other choice..unless its easy to paint.?

what kinda paint would i have to use to paint the housing or the roof..? and perhaps a rear valance as well? come to think of it.. that would be quite a bit of vinyl on the car.. so please teach me how to paint each part =D i.e. is there no other alternative to take apart the lights to paint the housing besides baking it?

Wow, just wow, even with any "directions" you may get, please don't attempt to paint the roof of your Infiniti yourself. It's not a canvas to be practicing on.

 

I wold not paint the roof. You can send the headlight to the US, either here in CA or out in NY to get it painted.

I'd get the roof overlayed.

If everyone here just suggested getting your headlights painted rather than the overlays, don't you think they'd suggest the same thing for your tail lights??? C'mon man, think!

 

I actually would not paint the tails, just overlay. Because of the way the tails are curved, painting the outer lens would not cover it from all angles. You can try to have the inner housing painted but then I'm not sure how it'd look. So overlay would be the next best (also temporary) solution. Cheaper too.
