I am having the same problem. This is the bulb that I pulled out. I am sure that you can't just pull the actual bulb out and that i would have to change the whole housing. Am I trying to change the wrong bulb???

Im starting to think that this is my foglight. I have a 09 base sedan and im assuming that the original pictures from this thread are for a different year/style headlight.

Earlier today I replaced my stock HID bulbs to 6000k. With that, you do NOT need to jack up the car, nor do you need to take the wheels off. There's plenty of room to work with, but it will take some time, patience and be prepared to have some pretty beat up hands after the installation.

So I just wanted to share my experience regarding the installation. Considering so, follow the steps that others have posted.

I know this is old and prob discovered already but you can replace your headlights in 10 mins without taking the wheels off. Simply jack up your car for easier access, turn wheels all the way over (when doing each side respectfully), then simply pop out the 3 plastic mounting tabs in the wheel well...peel the plastic cover liner down (will roll down with the tire) and then you have plenty of access for the headlights. 10 mins tops to do both sides

Yup, done it a few times myself for HID fogs, 6000K headlights and LED's, and I've never even jacked up the car.

NOTE: Passenger Side fog light on the G37x sedan can NOT be accessed through fender because of windshield fluid tank in the way, so you have to remove 3 bolts from under the front bumper on that side, pull back the shielding and get at through there. Just reminded of that when I returned my lamps to stock for the return.

Yeah, there's definitely a trick to it. After it's done a few times it's easy.

Can I buy just the HID bulbs for the headlight and fog light or do I need to buy the kits with the ballasts?

You'll need ballast for the fogs

If I were you I would give this 35w kit from DDM Tuning a try:
DDM Tuning 35W and 55W HID Kits

I've had one of their 35w H8 6000k kits in my Fog lights on my 2010 G37x and now transferred it to my 2013 G37x, going on 4-years with no problems, and at this price of $30 you can't go wrong! Matches my 6000k HID headlamps near perfectly. (See my profile pix)

You should replace the HID bulbs on that DDM kit though. Any bulbs will color-shift and reduce in brightness after 4 years (even the low beam D2S bulbs).

The orig post should be edited. For a 2009 g37 sedan the fogs are 9006, NOT H1! After taking it all apart and pulling out the bulb I now have to order the correct set and wait another week.
