Reversing the shift direction on the 5AT

Has anyone taken the area around the auto shifter apart yet to see if you can just reverse the wiring on the shift handle for the manual shifting? I can't stand that you push up to upshift and pull back to downshift. I have more then once been in DS mode and because i've owned manual trans vehicles for the last 17 I rest my hand on the shifter and accidentally downshift going around a corner or whatever. I can't imagine it would be to involved to reverse the wiring on the switch that shifts the gears. Has anyone looked into this or maybe have that area of their car apart to show what the switch looks like? This could be a very easy mod and i'm sure i'm not the only one that hates how it is set up. I really like the idea of using the shift handle vs the paddles, especially in corners, but will absolutely not use it the way it is.

It would be SUPER easy to do this.

do you know how to take the shifter and all that apart? it's quite simple.

once you have it apart, you can see the limit switches used for up and down shift - it's pretty cool, really, to see how it all functions - which you can then just switch the wires.

Edit: just for the record, i think bimmers have it backwards.

excellent news, if anyone has pictures or does this please take pictures. I'm not home and rarely get to drive my car because of that so when I do come home on weekends I don't want to spend the day tearing my car apart, i want to drive it! If someone trys this out please document how to take everything apart and put back together so that when I am in town, more then just a weekend, I can kick this mod out quickly! This is very good news!
