To repaint or not? 2011 G37X Silver

I got this G37X 2011, 33k mileage, for 23k OTD....Catch was the bumper is ****ted on, should I repaint it or no? I drive the car 4times a month only on the weekends, and the car is parked on the street. I live in NYC and take the subway to work.

Here are some pics...I got quoted at $700 for both bumpers.(Front & rear)

I tried turtle wax rubbing compound on those black spots you see in the pics...No luck, I don't think those are oxidation, it looks like rockchips to me and feels kind of deep

if they are pitted most likely rock chips, i would just touch it up
if raised and you can chip them off most likely you can clay them off..

700 doesn't seem to bad to me. go for it (and post some after pics).

I am considering getting my G front bumper repainted as well. I will them put a clear film over it too.

What's that on your rear bumper? Some sort of guard/protector/bumper shox type? It doesn't look that bad, from the pictures at least.

Anyways you live in nyc and you have to park on the street. Are you talking about side/curb street parking where you/other people have to parallel to park? I've heard it's notorious there for people to bump and scratch up your front bumpers. I'd repaint it but would be very upset if someone bumps it the next day.

Yeah, I park on the street (parallel park) EVERYDAY....I don't drive everyday as stated in my original post. I drive once a week with my g/f.

That's a bumper guard I bought, it's $70 shipped bucks from 4bumpers.com

when I got my car there was a huge ding in the middle of the rear bumper.

$700 is a huge investment...heh anyone else think I should jump the gun and just have them repaint the front and rear?

It depends how much it bothers you, $700 sounds pretty good for a complete F&R bumper re-paint. Only problem would be if the color match was just a bit off, that would probably bother you more than those pits and scratches. And like QuakerOat said, really chap your hide if someone dinged it up shortly after you just got it clean again. If you have to do a lot of street parking in busy areas you might just ride it out.

I was thinking of doing the alternative, which is

1. Smooth out the rockchips/dings with Turtle Wax rubbing compound

2. Buy Dr.Colorchips with color match, and fill them in accordingly with a couple of coats

3. Then use the blot remover to remove excess paint

4. Apply a clear coat, wash & wax..

While you don't drive it everyday. People will be parallel parking in front and behind you everyday. While they fill will make them a little better, it will still be noticeable. I don't think you'll be pleased with it.

I'd just leave it alone since you are forced to park on the street.

Heh I guess, it's not noticeable from a far, just up close you see tons of rockchips near the foglight areas. And a couple on hood

I probably won't invest in it now, but when I get a garage I'll definitely get it repainted

Girlfriend said 700 bucks to repaint the bumpers when I park on the street and rarely drive is dumb

But I rather see no black dots than 20 of them on each foglight

Repainting the rear bumper will have a better long term effect. Unless your careless will stay looking good. The front bumper will go back to looking like a starry night after some driving.
I Dr. Colorchipped the hood after I noticed about half a dozen rock chip and after a year I have a new set of rock chips with more pitted chips on the front bumper.
As you will see on this board Inifiniti paint is about as durable as a wet paper towel.

That's about the best advice, at least w/ the colorchip the dings will be hidden a bit more compared to the peppered look that you have now and you'll have the chip paint to cover up future peppering. The back should stay fine as long as no one dings you from there

I used to live in nyc and that's when i got my g. First night i parked on street got 2 dings and chips front and back....right after that night i park in icon with monthly pass it was about $300. If you are going to park on street after paint its pointless to repaint ur g. I would say touch paint if you are going to park on street. U will c those chips again if you going to park on street thats for sure.
