Replacing Aluminum Shift ***?

I bought my G used and I guess the original owner wore a ring or something and completely scratched the aluminum piece on the shift ***. I called my dealership and they told me they couldn't replace just the aluminum piece, they'd have to replace the entire shift *** which would be $180 before labor. Do any of you have ideas of a cheaper way to do this with the same end results?

Buy a non OEM shift **** that's less expensive.
Sand/paint the metal part.
Scuff the metal part up to look more like the rest of the trim.
Find a used **** in good condition.

Thanks for the ideas!
I was thinking of contacting a couple of junk yards and seeing if they would part one out from a totaled G.

Got my 09 G37 Sedan 4 montghs ago. It ALSO had a long scratch on the same part. Bugged me, but eventually I am going to fix it. The aluminum piece seems to just be stuck on with tape, maybe a junk yard to get the entire ****.
