Question Stainless Steel Exhaust Tips - What have you done?

After years of planning, I took delivery of a 2011 G37S Sedan 6MT this week, so this is my first thread on-topic to actually owning the G... as opposed to just planning for it. And IMO, the SS exhaust tips are cheap-looking, clamp-on crap mated to an otherwise gorgeous car. Later this Spring, I'd like to do something about that. So...

Measurment: it's looking like the actual tip as welded to the (fugly) OEM mufflers is a 2.25" diameter. Can anyone confirm that? It's also looking like a 7.5" extension from the muffler to the end of the SS tip.

I'm thinking I'd like to cut them off and weld on something respectable. Magnaflow comes to mind. I'm open for advice and opinions, guys. Short of getting a cat-back, what have you done?

why dont you just buy an axle back exhaust instead of chopping off your tips? And I would not put anything magnaflow on our cars. That s**ts for trucks and muscle cars.

i know plenty g37s that have installed magnaflow mufflers with tips on their cars and it looks great. any sort of rolled double wall angle cut SS tip will look pretty decent. Magnaflow even makes oval tips to match the OEM.

I agree with you though. if im spending what will be probably $150 after labor and all that for no sound increase you might as well buy a Tannebe axleback and call it a day.

There's nothing wrong with Magnaflow on a G if that's what you like.

OK. Really? Is the Sedan forum the wrong place for this topic?

Since the exhaust is brand new (for all practical purposes), all I want to do is dress up these crappy tips for the next few years until a decent aftermarket exhaust goes on.

Here's my custom Magnaflow setup, it sounds great and no rasp. Unless you know how to weld and will be installing the new tips yourself, save the time/money and get an axleback setup (like my HKS for sale).

Dual-tips on both sides... very nice! Those must be 2.25" or 2.5" tips to fit together well enough in openings on the OEM bumper. I love the dual-tips on my Cattman exhaust on the Maxima, so it would only look twice as good having that on both sides.

Do you have a close-up shot of the fitment on those dual-tips in the opening on the bumper?

For a number of years now, I've had access to a fantastic street-pro mechanic. If not him, then someone else come Springtime... I'm not concerned about the installation.

Every exhaust "TIP" is CHEAP. Find yourself an axelback and you'll get better mufflers, tips and sound all in one

That may be true, and is why I'm exploring this option. The Sedan Forum probably isn't the place to discuss it. I'll go elsewhere.

Every tip is cheap, huh? Capitalized, even. Must be so.
