How would I go about fixing these scuff marks?

How would I go about fixing these scuff marks?

Some kind person left these marks on my bumper last night. I left a note on his car but his wife already told me "well you can go through insurance if you want but it'll cost you more". I don't expect him to pony up to fix a minor problem if he doesn't have to, so i need to fix it myself..

Here are some pics.. not super clear but it's hard to get good images. There's a big scuff in the middle of the bumper and a scratch that dented the paint. On the right side of the bumper there's some smaller scuffs.

do i just need a rubbing compound and then a waxing to get rid of this? if so i won't bother asking the guy to pay for it.

thanks

Looks like buffing can make that brand new. Gives you an excuse to get the car detail and compound it brand new.

The guy damaged your car, and his wife tried told you to fix it yourself...and you accepted that??

Anyway, it looks like a lot of the damage is in the clear, and will buff out. You need to find a friend with a RO buffer and some polishes to remove that. Don't forget to put a layer of sealant or wax on afterwards, as the polish will remove all protection.

Yea also gives me an excuse to buy more stuff for the car. I've searched the forums for this but I am not sure exactly what I would need to fix the problem. Would i need one of those buffing machines? And what compound/wax/filler should I use for my car?

Maybe this thread would be better in the Detailing forum thanks anyway

She said it's my choice if i want to pursue it given the insurance cost would be higher. I told her that it's not about the costs but doing what's right. She took the note and will either give it to her husband or just throw it away. There's not much i can do about it is there? If he calls me and i ask him to pay for the repair, he can just say he won't and i can't do anything about it, except go dent his car back

I'm really pissed off about this but in the end it's up to the guy if he wants to do what is right or not.. I am just assuming right now he won't because most people are *******s.

What are you saying? You guys work on the honor system up there? In the states, if someone hits your car, they don't have a choice if they are responsible or not. Call the police, file a claim, collect your money.

Well I've never actually gone through the process of claiming damages. I don't even have proof he did it (even if it's pretty obvious, it's my word against his). My assumption here is that he won't want to pay and that going through all the trouble after to get him to pay for a buffing won't be worth the efforts.

I'd be outside running and screaming towards his car with bat in one hand and a crowbar in the other if this was me.

So i spoke to my insurance and then the police about this. Basically what they told me is that filing a report and a claim would be kinda useless since the damage is so small. In some cases of hit and run the deductible on my claim would be waived. The police suggested I fix it myself and ask the other driver if he's willing to pay for it. If he says no i can't really do much.

In the end i have to rely on the goodwill of the other guy to get compensation. Somehow, i doubt he'll want to pay anything. How would this work in the US?

You may need something more aggressive to get those out. I'd recommend you try: Menzerna Power Gloss/orange pad, followed by Menzerna Super Intensive polish/orange pad, followed by Menzerna PO106FA/white pad.

Not bad, definitely worth bargaining for. You don't have to suggest it btw, as guys we automatically think about it the moment it happens.
