Has anyone tried the absorber, if so is it worth trying?

if you're talking about the blue spongy pad, then yes I've tried it.

It soaks up water great. It is amazing at that...but it has no way of taking the dirt and contaminants off the surface of the car, so you end up just dragging them around and marring the paint.

It's better to just use MF waffle towels

^ Hispeed is correct. It will soak up water but has the potential to drag dirt across you paint causing swirls and marring.

It's recommend you use a Microfiber Waffle Weave Drying Towel from Detailed Image.

I've used the Absorber for years. Like others have said, it is great at soaking up water. I don't know how you guys wash your cars but there isn't any dirt on my paint after I wash mine. It is really safe to use on clean paint. I have not caused any swirls while using it AFTER washing my car. I use the Absorber after I take off the excess water with the California water blade. Great combo for fast drying.

I prefer the big waffleweaves now to the Absorber.

I'd have to ring out the absorber multiple times, but with the waffleweave I just keep going.

the same reason you clay a car after you wash it (obv not every time)...there is still dirt on it. It may not be the big chunky dirt but if you feel the paint before you clay you can feel the small pieces on the paint.

Here are some reviews.

Absorber Chamois, April 6, 2008
By Mark Harris - See all my reviews

This review is from: The Absorber Synthetic Drying Chamois, 27" x 17" (Misc.)
Great product. I have used this chamois for the last 15 years. Works great for drying cars, boats, etc... Better than a traditional chamois because it does not mold or mildew. Highly recommended.

The Absorber, March 17, 2007

This review is from: The Absorber Synthetic Drying Chamois, 27" x 17" (Misc.)
This chamois worked very well in comparison to every other chamois I've tried. However, I was expecting something a bit more outstanding considering the reviews I've read.

The Good
-Long Lasting (VERY long lasting)
-Easily wrung out when wet

The bad
-Left some streaks and spots on auto paint (in comparison to a microfiber cloth)

All in all, not a bad buy for the price

I've used one of these for over five years and it still works great! It is rare when you can find a product that does what is says and lasts as long as this one does. Just remember to put it away in its container and roll it up damp. Amazing!

This review is from: The Absorber Synthetic Drying Chamois, 27" x 17", Blue (Automotive)
Pros:
-Works better than a chamois in absorbing water.
-Does not produce streaks when drying autos. Spotfree!
-I cut it in half or a quarter size and it is great on the kitchen tops, sink, bathroom,...
-Works marvelous on kitchen spills
-Available almost everywhere
-Cheaper than chamois

Cons:
-You have to store it moist in the canister or it will dry stiff as a cardboard. (Dip it on water and it is good to go again).
-Storing it moist promotes growth of bacteria and micro-organism. Forget about using it on your body as a towel or drying your plates, pots and utensils.

all those reviews really said was it was good at absorbing water...which it absolutely is
they all just say it is better than the other chamois...which I'm sure it is, but a waffle weave towel is better than any chamois for drying

they didn't say anything about marring the paint -- which it does IMO (I did use it very briefly)
