installing 3m clear bra ?

Hey guys,

Has anyone ever installed the 3m guard on your car? What was the degree of difficulty? I have had the car for 2 months and because I drive the car on the hwy (I95 and I91) in CT and NY I already have a few chips and it really annoys me. I really wish I did the clear bra when I got the car but do you think it is still worth it even though I have a few chips. The front of the car just seems to get hammered up here in the northeast during the winter.

Thanks for your help
Tom D

I had the 3M clear bra installed before the first 5 days of ownership. It's not a DIY project.

It's possible, but I wouldn't go that route. It took two pros 4 hours to do mine.

I would definitely get it done even if you already have a couple chips. Think about how many more chips it'll save you over the next few years. When I had mine done, I had the tint done at the same time. It's 18" up the hood, mirrors, & front fender. Part of me wished I had gotten the whole hood done, but not sure if I want to go back now.

I think I paid in the high $500s for the clear bra.

I second the feeling on the whole hood. Especially after getting caught behind some salt trucks in December on the highway. Guy in front of me thought it was great fun to drive just a little behind them at the same speed on the highway. I picked up a half dozen new chips above the clear bra that morning.

i will also second the fact that installing precut clear bras is not easy. I tried on on my previous vehicle. Had the video and read all the posts I could about how to do it. I failed. The flat parts were pretty easy but curves etc were very hard to do. Took it off and went to a local 3M installer shop recommended by largest local body shop. They didn't even do it right. They gave me my money back.

So find some one who has had the job done by an installer near you to see how their results look and go from there.

True True True- Installer had to redo parts of my install three times before it was acceptable- the compound curves on the bumper in the faux vent area is obviously not easy- even for the pros. Props to my installer for standing behind his product and work.

Agreed. Took my installer about 3 1/2 hours. I got the nose, side mirrors and rear bumper done.
