Mezerna FTG

Will applying Mezerna FTG w/o polishing help conceal scratches/swirls? In other words if i wash-claybar-glaze(FTG)-wax will i notice reduction in swirls?

Yes. Menzerna FTG will help conceal some swirls depending on their depth, but as you know it will not remove them or permanently fill the swirls. A detailers recommendation would be to remove the swirls first via polishing with a Menzerna Polish and a Random Orbital Buffer.

the above is correct.

I've done the above steps before when i needed a quick fix for a meet, but it is just a bandaid. plus the results are very dependant on the severity of the existing swirls.

+1 On deeper imperfections FTG isn't going to do much, but on minor surface swirls it can help mask them to some degree. In the proper lighting, you'll still see them, so don't expect the paint to look flawless. It can help add to the depth and gloss as well.

I have an addon question:

In general, what do you guys prefer: Liquid Wax or Paste Wax?

Paste wax. I've used FTG and in general prefer Menzerna products. However, for glaze I prefer PBW Black Hole or White Diamond for lighter cars. As was stated, it will not correct any imperfections but helps hide them. I use it after seal;ant and before wax with great results.
