Clear bra/windows tint offer - Please comment

Guys,

Due to a couple of chips I got, I decided to go with a clear bra. Today I went to a Venture shield dealer and got the follwing offer:

1-The whole hood and both fenders for $1500
2-Part of the hood and fenders and both mirrors for $300
3-Lights for $100
4-Full front bumper for $400

They are all negotiable but the special offer (2, 3 and 4 for $650)

Please comment on what would you do and price...
Also for windows tint I got $200.
Thank you!
A

No, its not $2150...Option 1 includes 2..So you had 2 and 4 for $650..For that price I get the lights also...

I have a clear bra installation business and I can tell you the price is a little high for the full hood/fenders. $800 for the partial hood, partial fenders, mirrors, bumper, and lights is about right. prices will vary from location to location.

Have you seen any of their work in person? What business is it? I can ask around and find out if they are any good or not... if I havent already heard of them.

Yes I have seen it. Looks good actually..
I'm not sure why everyone gets it wrong...The $800 you are talking about is actually their special for $650. However I agree $1500 is too high for the full hood/fenders.

2,3,4 sound good for $640. You really need that whole bumper cause it gets a lot of dings. $200 for tint is high, expecially since they dont have to take anything off. Are you trying to get the windshield done too?

What Heat said. $650 is a reasonable deal and is exactly the coverage I have. You need the full bumper protection.

Heat,

Thanks for your reply! No winshield and as a matter of fact no tint for a while. The clear bra is more important. I'm tempted to get 2, 3 and 4 but heard many people saying that the bumper is just plastic so it will never rust. Even my Infiniti dealer is only doing part of the hood and fenders.
The only reason I wouldn't do it is because it gets really expensive, already paid 45k on this car.

Thanks again,
A

Chi-town G37,

Thanks for the reply. He said for $650 deal there would be NO negotiation. Should I push for $600? I might be able to get him another customer...

Please advise.

Thanks,

I negotiated a free clear bra for my G from the dealer, so yeah, tell them $600. It's a bad economy afterall.

I'm confused about your statement two posts up regarding the plastic bumper and not rusting, however. The whole purpose of the clear bra is to protect the paint from getting chipped, scuffed, etc; thus avoiding an ugly sandblasted and chipped up paint appearance. Protecting against rust through is not a primary objective. If you neglect to do the bumper you WILL have lots of chips and they will look bad and you will be sad

my bad, $650 for 2/3/4 sounds good. i cant see spending $1500 on a clear bra. i could just repaint the front for that.

Just remember... Clear Bra is all in the install. Check out your installers work first.

Guys, honestly I don't know if I should go with the front bumper. My point is the bra only protects the car against minor hits. If you get a big rock it will come up with a dent.
I wonder how much is to paint the front bumper. Because instead of paying for the bra I might as well just repaint the bumper when I sell the car (to look good)...

Thoughts?

Thanks,
A

It is unlikely that you will hit a rock hard enough to cause a dent. I have hit a shred of tire before (a very large piece) and all I got was slight cracking on the under part of the bumper, very minor. In my experience, the paint is very soft, the bumper however, is very strong. I have gotten dings on the rear quarter panel from rocks. I am constantly cleaning and caring for my car with the best products and I still get knicks on the bumper bc I dont have a clear bra.

As soon as you repaint that bumper you will loose a lot of money in that car. Anytime a car is repainted it will depreciate because no one wants a car that has had damage to it... and they will never feel comfortable with you telling them "it was just for rock chips" because there are to many shady practices going on these days.

If anything the bumper is the main piece to protect on a car. 80% of the damage will happen to the bumper and the front edge of the hood/fenders. I would feel pretty stupid if the hood and fenders were protected and yet the bumper was all chipped up because it wasnt. It doesnt make sense really if you think about it. Like you said you paid 45k for that car. So why are you worried about $50 now. Get the full clear bra on the front... he is offering you a great price and you will not have to worry about rock chips any more.
